Agriculture Ministry Allocates 70 Million Baht to Combat Black Carp Outbreak
The Agriculture Ministry is deploying 70 million baht and establishing provincial operations centers to combat a black carp outbreak, with urgent containment efforts focusing on Lam Pao Dam in Kalasin Province.
The Ministry of Agriculture is escalating efforts to control the spread of black carp by establishing provincial operations centers to monitor outbreaks and coordinate rapid containment. Agriculture Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkij announced the signed order to set up these centers in affected provinces, integrating cooperation between agencies under the Agriculture Ministry, the Interior Ministry, security units, local government, and the private sector to resolve the crisis as quickly as possible.
Suriya assigned Deputy Agriculture Minister Watcharapol Khaokham to direct the operations center. The ministry is also seeking a central budget allocation of approximately 70 million baht to implement solutions, currently in the planning phase with clear performance indicators. Officials will coordinate with major animal feed producers such as CP Foods, which previously purchased black carp for livestock feed using over 10 million baht, and may seek additional cooperation.
Deputy Agriculture Minister Watcharapol Khaokham stated that an urgent response is underway, particularly regarding the situation at Lam Pao Dam in Kalasin Province. On September 15, 2025, all relevant stakeholders will meet to establish concrete solutions, as the area is newly affected and requires immediate containment. The Fisheries Department has been ordered to investigate the outbreak at Lam Pao Dam, with preliminary indications suggesting the outbreak originated from purchased fish stock or contaminated online fishing bait orders. Officials plan to visit the site this week to monitor conditions and implement countermeasures directly.
