PSU and Bangkok Metropolitan Electricity Launch Smart Solar Grid Project

Prince of Songkla University partnered with the Bangkok Metropolitan Electricity Authority to sign an academic cooperation agreement and launch the PSU Smart Solar Grid project on September 14 at the university's Hat Yai campus. The initiative will install solar power systems and intelligent grid technology to manage energy across all five university campuses, aiming to boost efficiency, cut electricity costs, and advance the institution toward clean energy use.

At the ceremony, university and authority officials outlined the project's importance and mutual benefits. Deputy Rector Vasit Suwanrattana emphasized that the university's five campuses face growing electricity demand due to teaching, research, and service operations. The Smart Solar Grid project goes beyond simple solar installation by establishing an intelligent energy management system using digital technology to monitor and optimize energy production and consumption across all campuses, creating a model for future clean energy learning.

Rector Niwatti Kaewpradab stressed the collaboration's importance for sustainable development, targeting reduced energy inefficiency, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and increased clean energy use to achieve carbon-neutral operations. Deputy Director Pattra Suwannadeach of the Bangkok Metropolitan Electricity Authority said the authority is ready to share expertise and technology in solar systems and smart grid management to help the university operate efficiently and sustainably. The project spans five campuses with a total installed capacity of 11.28 megawatts, projected to save an average of 20.80 million baht annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 7,839.87 tons per year.
