Residents of Nong Tu community in Udon Thani province were frightened when a 31-year-old air conditioning technician began waving a knife around the neighborhood on July 8, claiming someone had deliberately provoked him. Alarmed residents recorded video and called police for assistance. Officers arrived and detained the man, identified as S. Panuwich, 31, and brought him to Udon Thani City Police Station for questioning.
During a search of his residence, officers discovered two sharp-bladed knives and an electronic cigarette, which were seized as evidence. A urine test revealed no drugs in his system. He was charged with carrying a knife in a city, village, or public area without reasonable cause and possessing an electronic cigarette.
Later, S. explained that someone had bothered him all morning, claiming they were deliberately provoking him and making him anxious. He said he wasn't trying to cause trouble for anyone and had acted in self-defense. He acknowledged a past involvement with drugs but insisted he had quit long ago and now works as an air conditioning technician. Regarding what residents thought was a gun, he clarified it was only a modified toy gun with no intention to harm anyone. He apologized to his neighbors and promised to improve his behavior and prevent similar incidents in the future.
