Police Lieutenant Pornchai Luea-phol of Plutaung Station in Chonburi received a report at 5:50 p.m. on July 8, 2569 of assault and poisoning at a health massage shop along Sukhumvit Road in Sattahip. Two victims were found: a 57-year-old man (name withheld) in critical condition after ingesting bathroom cleaner, and a 48-year-old woman (name withheld) with injuries from strangulation, forced ingestion of bathroom cleaner, and electrical burns on her neck and right hand. Both remain hospitalized in the emergency room unable to give statements.

According to the woman's friend who witnessed the incident, she had stepped out briefly when the shop owner called her back urgently. Security footage showed the man assaulting the woman near the bathroom. Upon arriving, the friend found the front door locked from inside. Seeing them struggle, she sought help from a neighbor and entered from the back entrance. She discovered the man forcing bathroom cleaner into the woman's mouth and then his own, with an electrical cord plugged into an outlet causing both to be electrocuted. Her attempt to help resulted in her being shocked as well. She managed to pull the man away and fled to seek neighborhood assistance. Both victims were unconscious when authorities arrived.

The friend revealed the woman had mentioned her husband traveled from Samut Prakan and they had been quarreling over family matters. Investigators collected evidence at the scene, including electrical wire and a bottle of bathroom cleaner. They await the victims' recovery before conducting detailed statements and proceeding with legal action.

An ammonia leak occurred at an ice factory in Khao Phra subdistrict, Derm Bang Nang Buat district, Suphanburi province on July 8, 2026. The facility is located near schools and communities, prompting authorities to evacuate students and residents from the risk zone. A total of 36 people were taken to hospital, including 2 teachers, 1 local official, 10 students, 10 factory workers, 3 civilians, 3 disaster relief officers, and 6 municipal staff. They experienced eye irritation, nasal irritation, and chest tightness. Two nearby schools—Derm Bang Nang Buat Kindergarten (approximately 300 meters away) and Dhammachoti Education School (approximately 1,000 meters away)—evacuated students to safety.

Investigation revealed the leak stemmed from damaged ammonia piping that was scheduled for replacement. Factory management stated they conduct regular inspections of valves and piping, with safety equipment installed throughout the system to mitigate leakage risks. Authorities from the Pollution Control Department measured ammonia concentrations in the surrounding air to assess public health impacts. The valve was successfully closed and the situation returned to normal.

Industry Minister Weerawut Silpaarcha confirmed the ammonia leaked from a 120-ton ice production machine's storage tank during valve maintenance. He stated that while 36 people required hospitalization, the situation is now controlled. An investigation is ongoing to determine if any workplace violations occurred, with potential penalties including facility closure under factory law.

On July 8, 2025, at 3 p.m., tourist police officials handed over 8,987 baht to Thassakcorn, a law-abiding citizen from San Pa Pao subdistrict, San Sai district, Chiang Mai, after the one-year legal waiting period expired with no claimant coming forward.

Thassakcorn had found the cash at Kad Maprao market on June 16, 2024, along with documentation bearing the name Ms. Annabell, a German tourist. He immediately reported the discovery to tourist police, who launched efforts to locate and contact the owner.

Despite extensive attempts to track down the tourist over the past year, no one claimed the money or came forward as the rightful owner. Following Thai Civil and Commercial Code Article 1325, which establishes the rights of finders to unclaimed property, police invited Thassakcorn to verify the documents and cash amount. Tourist police commended Thassakcorn's honesty and integrity in reporting the found money from the very first day. His actions exemplify the highest standards of conduct and create a positive impression for Thai tourism.

SAMUT PRAKAN — 8 July 2026, American fitness influencer and YouTuber Connor Michael Murphy has died after drowning in a lake at a luxury residential property in Bang Phli district, according to Thai media reports citing police and rescue workers.

Murphy, 32, was found about 20 metres from the shore after divers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation searched the lake for around 30 minutes. An initial examination found no signs of assault, and police sent the body to Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The incident occurred at a rented luxury house next to a large pond. A village staff member who recorded video of the incident said Murphy had begun behaving erratically before running into the water. Witnesses said he swam in the lake until he appeared exhausted and then disappeared beneath the surface.

Witnesses said they did not enter the water because the lake was more than 10 metres deep. Rescue divers were later called to the scene and recovered the body.

Police later found the luxury lakeside house Murphy had been renting badly vandalised. Black and yellowish paint had been splashed throughout the 22-million-baht property, including on furniture, home decorations and electrical appliances. The homeowner, identified only as Ms. View, said Murphy and his 22-year-old girlfriend had rented the house for 35,000 baht a month and had been living there for about three months.

Murphy's girlfriend, identified only as Bee, said that the damage appeared to have happened overnight while she was asleep in another room. She said Murphy had seemed normal before the incident and that she had never seen him use drugs while they were living together.

A security guard told police that Murphy had returned to the neighbourhood in a hired vehicle before the drowning. According to the Bangkok Post, Murphy reportedly tried to give the driver 1,000 baht, approached another resident's car asking for a ride, then became agitated, shouted, rolled on the pavement and raised his hands as if praying. When police arrived, he ran into the lake.

Police are still investigating the circumstances leading up to Murphy's death. Authorities are awaiting full autopsy and toxicology results to determine whether drugs or other substances played a role in the incident. Police later searched Murphy's vehicle and found two unused syringes and several unidentified white pills inside a waist bag, according to reports.

Murphy had publicly discussed mental health struggles in videos posted to his YouTube channel, though he also claimed that some of his acts of insanity were staged.

Murphy had reportedly been staying in Thailand on a Destination Thailand Visa and working remotely selling fitness food supplements.

Murphy was best known for bodybuilding, fitness and social-experiment videos. His main YouTube channel, Connor Murphy, has 2.36 million subscribers, while a second channel, Connor Murphy Unfiltered, has 1.28 million subscribers.

On July 8, 2026, officials from Ku Bang Luang Subdistrict Municipality in Lad Lum Kaew District, Pathum Thani, met with provincial livestock officials, administrative staff, community leaders, and village health volunteers to establish rabies prevention and surveillance measures.

The incident began when a white male stray dog of unknown age entered villages 7 and 9 of Ku Bang Luang Subdistrict around 9 a.m. on July 5. The aggressive dog attacked seven local pets and bit two residents before livestock officials tranquilized and captured it. The dog died on July 6 at around 8 a.m., and its head was sent for testing.

Confirmation came that the dog tested positive for rabies, a serious communicable disease under Thailand's 2015 Animal Epidemics Act. The Pathum Thani Public Health Office declared temporary rabies control zones covering five areas across three subdistricts from July 7 through August 5, 2026.

Provincial livestock officer Julchart Julpet reported that authorities are implementing a blanket vaccination campaign within a 5-kilometer radius of the incident area, with intensive focus on a 1-kilometer radius where the dog was last seen. The first vaccination round was administered on Monday, with four total doses planned at four-day intervals. The two residents who were bitten have received initial medical treatment and vaccination. The seven pets that were attacked have been vaccinated and quarantined.

Public health authorities are warning residents to avoid contact with stray animals and to seek immediate medical attention if bitten, scratched, or exposed to any suspect animal.

Hackett Defends Bantamweight Belt Against Akimoto

British bantamweight champion Jonathan Hackett defends his ONE Championship title against former champion Hiroki Akimoto on October 17 in Tokyo, with the Japanese fighter seeking to reclaim the belt after a four-year absence.

Hackett Defends Bantamweight Belt Against Akimoto
7h ago Khaosod

Jonathan Hackett, ONE Championship's British bantamweight world champion (135-145 lbs), will defend his title for the third time against Hiroki Akimoto, a formidable Japanese fighter and former champion, at ONE Samurai 4 on Saturday, October 17 at Ariake Arena in Tokyo. After two successful title defenses, Hackett heads to Japan for another championship defense, but this challenge differs from his previous ones—Akimoto is a former champion hungry to reclaim the belt after a four-year wait. Both fighters possess world-class credentials, making this bout not merely a title defense but a true test of who rightfully owns the crown.

Hackett captured the ONE bantamweight kickboxing title by knocking out former ONE MMA champion Fabricio Andrade in ONE Fight Night 16 in November 2022, then successfully defended against Chinese striker Wei Rui at ONE 171 in February 2023. He later faced challenger Yuki Yoza at ONE Samurai 1 in April, and despite Yoza's sharp calf kicks, Hackett's superior technique prevailed. Now the British champion must prove he can retain the belt yet again against Akimoto.

Akimoto, known as the "White Elephant, Japan's Cloud Commander" for his aggressive striking style, won the title by defeating Captain Petchyindee Academy at ONE X in March 2022 but lost it in his first defense to Petch Tongnong Petchfergus at ONE 163 in November that year. Recently, Akimoto has surged back with three consecutive victories, including a recent win over teammate Taumu Hisai at ONE Samurai 1, restoring his confidence as he prepares to challenge Hackett before his home crowd with the firm goal of reclaiming his former world title.

Fans interested in attending ONE Samurai 4 can purchase tickets through ONEFC.com/ONESamurai4 and follow event updates on ONE Championship Thailand's Facebook, ONEFC.com, Instagram (@ONEChampTh), and TikTok (@ONEChampTH).

National Corruption Probe Into Rigged Civil Service Exams
7h ago Khaosod

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has decided to investigate fraud allegations in the 2568 civil service and local government recruitment examination program, which involved altering test scores and collecting money from applicants.

The NACC is treating this as a special investigation case under Section 51 of the Anti-Corruption Act of 2561, targeting multiple groups of individuals involved in the scheme.

Those under investigation include senior executives from the Department of Local Administration, government officials responsible for administering and announcing exam results, non-government individuals who altered applicant scores, bribe-collection intermediaries, and those who benefited from score manipulation.

The NACC is now launching its investigation into this high-profile corruption scandal that has drawn nationwide criticism and public attention.

The NACC office stated that after collecting information and evidence, it found credible grounds to believe that the director-general of the Department of Local Administration and associates conducted exams by altering scores and collecting payments from applicants to help them pass.

Given the national significance of these allegations and their broad societal impact, the case qualifies as a special investigation under NACC guidelines. The NACC presented the case to its board for designation as a special investigation, which will involve coordination with the National Police Office and the Special Investigation Bureau to provide support to the investigation committee.

The investigation is expected to expand beyond the initial five suspect groups to include additional individuals and organizations.

The fraud in the 2568 civil service and local government recruitment examinations involves high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Interior and will have far-reaching consequences nationwide.

Among approximately 15,000 individuals who were recruited as civil servants or local government employees, roughly 5,000 were found to have discrepancies between their recorded scores and answer sheet records.

Given the large number of people involved, this appears to be a major organized scheme. Beyond the corruption itself, the case also reveals serious deficiencies and laxity in Thailand's civil service system.

Therefore, in addition to investigating and prosecuting those involved, urgent civil service system reforms are necessary.

PM Anuthins Popularity Dips As Cabinet Reshuffle Rumors Swirl
7h ago Khaosod

Prime Minister Anuthín Charnveerakul seems to be seizing an opportunity to turn around his situation as polls indicate plummeting popularity ratings. He has fired a warning at forgetful ministers, suggesting that the prime minister himself could also be forgotten and potentially removed from the cabinet. This is a deliberate move to steer political momentum following waves of severe political challenges that have battered the government. These include cases damaging the Democratic Party and a serious corruption investigation into local officials that exposed a massive network shaking the Interior Ministry during Anuthín's leadership. With latest polling showing both the PM and the Democratic Party losing significant support, he appears to be pivoting to publicly warn negligent ministers that cabinet reshuffles are based on legitimate necessity, not mere power rotation. This has amplified momentum for ministerial changes rather than pressure to replace the PM himself. Earlier, rumors emerged of a potential replacement premier with the initial "S," intended to shake Anuthín's position. However, upon careful consideration, such reports appear far from reality, since any new prime minister must come from officially registered prime ministerial candidates of political parties. Among current candidates with the initial "S," only Sirikanya Tansakul of the Pheu Thai Party exists, which seems highly implausible. Moreover, the "S" reserve PM narrative likely referenced a former Bank of Thailand governor, who falls outside the system and would require extraordinary circumstances. It remains noteworthy that replacement PM rumors have gained traction despite being factually and procedurally impossible, suggesting Anuthín's position has begun to wobble due to government performance issues and mounting surrounding problems. When rumors circulate, people believe them without verification. The government itself must reflect on why, after three months in office, it has achieved little to satisfy citizens. If the government operates in a forgetful manner, ministerial changes could represent one solution, injecting greater dynamism into the cabinet. Thus, while a new PM name remains merely rumor, a cabinet reshuffle appears more realistic. However, the government must still rebuild public confidence through tangible improvements in economy, cost of living, straightforward anti-corruption efforts, and reduction of graft.
