Akkanat Announces New SG Curriculum to Reach All Provinces by 2027
Deputy Education Minister Akkanat Kanthakitinan announced that a new competency-based curriculum for the Office of Non-Formal and Informal Education will be finalized in October, with plans to roll it out across all 76 provinces by 2027 to serve over 800,000 learners. He said a committee is currently reviewing textbook standards to align them with the new curriculum, and the transition will take about a year to allow publishers and schools to prepare.
Akkanat explained that the revised curriculum emphasizes competency-based learning as its core focus. While the 2024 SG curriculum remains in a transitional phase, the new standards for textbooks are expected to be completed by October to ensure consistency and quality. He stressed that the transition will take about a year to allow publishers and schools to adapt, with clear standards to be set first. The ultimate goal is nationwide uniformity in using the SG curriculum, supporting over 800,000 learners across all provinces by 2027.
