Education Minister Tasks New Secretary With Reform, UNESCO Meeting
Education Minister PraSert has assigned new Permanent Secretary Pravit to push forward the National Education Act, implement government policies and prepare for Thailand’s co‑hosting of UNESCO’s Global Education Meeting in 2027. Pravit also said the ministry will set up a central coordination centre to aid flood‑affected schools and move toward a paperless e‑Office system.
On 1 October 2026, Education Minister PraSert Chantharavongthon said that after Pravit Erawan officially took office as the Ministry of Education’s permanent secretary, he assigned him to continue the ministry’s important missions. These include driving the government’s strategy and policies, advancing the draft National Education Act which is already in the legislative process, and preparing for the Global Education Meeting that Thailand will co‑host with UNESCO from 31 March to 2 April 2027. PraSert noted that the meeting will draw representatives from nearly 200 countries and requires early preparation. Pravit said he is ready to proceed immediately; he has already signed the draft Education Act for submission to the Cabinet, after which it will go to the Office of the Council of State and Parliament. He added that the ministry will promote flexible learning through innovation‑based education mechanisms and has begun coordinating with relevant agencies. The Office of the Permanent Secretary has launched a fully paperless e‑Office system to improve efficiency. Regarding floods, PraSert has tasked the office to serve as the central coordination centre for the ministry, linking assistance to affected schools, teachers, students and personnel and holding daily briefings with the government.
