Thailand Launches Global Thai Silk Exhibition With Designers Worldwide
Thailand’s Tourism Authority and the Thai Silk Association have unveiled the Amazing Thailand Global Thai Silk Exhibition, featuring designs from over 100 countries using Thai silk. The exhibition, launched alongside Thailand’s hosting of the 2026 IMF and World Bank meetings, seeks to promote Thai cultural heritage to an international audience. Organizers say they have sent more than 500 metres of black Thai silk to designers worldwide to create garments that reflect each nation’s identity.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Association for the Promotion of Thai Silk and Culture have launched the 'Amazing Thailand Global Thai Silk Exhibition', also known as 'Thai Silk to the World'. The initiative brings together fashion designs from over 100 countries, using Thai silk as a medium to express each nation's identity and culture through contemporary garments. The exhibition coincides with Thailand hosting the 2026 annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group, aiming to showcase Thai cultural heritage, wisdom, and identity to a global audience.
Edward Kitti, founder of the association, explained that the project builds on earlier efforts during Thailand's APEC hosting in 2022, when Thai silk was sent to designers from APEC economies to create outfits blending local fabrics with Thai silk. That experience demonstrated the fabric's ability to connect people across cultures and inspired the current global outreach. For this exhibition, the association has sent more than 500 metres of black Thai silk to designers worldwide, asking them to create contemporary fashion pieces that reflect their own cultural identities. The choice of black silk is meant to honor the mourning period for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit and Princess Bajrakitiyabha, encouraging designers to explore the symbolism and heritage of Thai silk.
