PM Anutin Seeks AI Investment in China Visit
PM Anutin travels to China this week seeking AI investment and technology partnerships, with plans to meet President Xi Jinping and discuss trade, security, and transnational crime.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul left Thailand on Thursday to seek investment from major artificial intelligence and technology companies, with plans to discuss trade, investment, security, and transnational crime during his China visit from July 16–20.
Anutin, who also serves as interior minister, will attend the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai and open a new Board of Investment office in Chengdu. He is also scheduled for an official visit to Beijing, where he will hold bilateral talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, and is expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in Shanghai on July 17.
"AI is an important issue that the government supports," Anutin said before departing. "We will look at how Thailand can cooperate with the international community." He said the Shanghai conference would provide opportunities to meet executives from major AI and technology companies and explore whether they could establish data centres, manufacturing facilities, or other technology operations in Thailand.
Anutin described the meeting with Xi as an opportunity to follow up on discussions held over the past year, including those during the King's visit to China. He said the talks would cover trade, investment, security, corruption, and transnational crime, though he declined to specify details on security matters, noting such issues should remain part of bilateral discussions.
"China is a great friend that has always supported Thailand, whether we ask or not," Anutin said, adding that cooperation between the two nations continues to advance.
