Czech Republic Coach Miroslav Kobeк Resigns After Group Stage Elimination from World Cup

Czech Republic coach Miroslav Kobeк resigned after the team's winless group stage exit from the 2026 World Cup, citing criticism over his defensive tactics and media pressure following a disastrous campaign that yielded just one point.

3h ago Khaosod

Miroslav Kobeк, head coach of the Czech Republic's 2026 World Cup squad, has resigned following the team's disappointing group stage elimination and mounting criticism over his tactical approach. Kobeк assumed the role in December 2025 when the Czech Republic had qualified as group runners-up in European qualifying, subsequently leading them through playoff victories to reach the tournament. However, the Czech Republic struggled in Group A against hosts Mexico, South Africa, and South Korea, winning none of their three matches and collecting just one point, finishing fourth. Kobeк drew particularly harsh criticism for his defensive, counter-attacking strategy, and notably benched striker Patrik Schick in the crucial Mexico match—a game the team lost 0-3. The 74-year-old coach stated: "Media coverage based on half-truths and false stories about me influenced this decision. My work has lost its meaning amid this kind of atmosphere."

4h ago Khaosod

A teacher at a prominent Chiang Mai school has been arrested for sexually abusing a Grade 8 female student over an extended period, committing acts in the school office, teacher's residence, and his personal vehicle, while forcing the girl to send him explicit videos. The victim became severely depressed and contemplated suicide.

On June 29, 2026, the Pueying Hongsukul Foundation for Children and Women coordinated with Deputy Provincial Police Commander Yutthana Kaenjanchan to arrest the school's discipline coordinator. The teacher had exploited the student, coerced her to send nude videos, and subjected her to abuse across multiple locations at the school and in his car, causing the girl severe psychological distress and suicidal thoughts. When her grandmother and mother learned of the situation, they traveled from Chiang Mai to report the case to the Pueying Foundation.

After receiving the complaint, the foundation worked with police to investigate, gather evidence, and secure an arrest warrant from Chiang Mai Provincial Court before the teacher's arrest and detention.

The investigation revealed the teacher lured and sexually assaulted the student repeatedly over approximately a year, while also coercing her to provide explicit videos. The girl endured abuse in the discipline office, the teacher's residential quarters on school grounds, and in his private vehicle, leading to severe anxiety and suicidal ideation. Following her family's report to the foundation, the teacher was arrested.

The Pueying Foundation has invited Dr. Trin Ganasittinan, Director of the Rights and Freedoms Protection Center under the Ministry of Education, to meet with the victim's grandmother and mother to develop rehabilitation and support plans, including the student's transfer to another school. The foundation has also coordinated with Deputy Education Minister Akkanut Kanakittinant, who heads the Rights and Freedoms Protection Center, to pursue severe disciplinary action against the teacher.

Rescue of First-Grade Girl Abused by Methamphetamine-Addicted Mother Who Kicked Her Down Stairs and Burned Her Hand

A seven-year-old girl in Khon Kaen was rescued after her methamphetamine-addicted mother kicked her down stairs and burned her hand with a lighter; the mother is now in custody receiving addiction treatment.

4h ago Khaosod

On June 29, social workers and child welfare officials from Udon Thani province, along with police from Ban Thuem Station, held a meeting to assist a family in Khon Kaen District after residents reported that a 37-year-old woman named Ms. Noi, who is three to four months pregnant, has been regularly abusing her seven-year-old daughter who is in first grade. The girl's grandmother, 56-year-old Nang Chit, provided authorities with video footage secretly recorded by her grandson showing the mother kicking the young girl violently. Nang Chit explained that her daughter has three children from different fathers and is pregnant with a fourth child whose father is unknown. The daughter became addicted to drugs years ago after her first husband's death. She received 180,000 baht in insurance money but spent it all on methamphetamine, giving her mother only 10,000 baht. The daughter now suffers severe drug addiction with hallucinations. Two to three days ago, she became violent and brutally attacked the girl, kicking her down the stairs and burning her fingers with a lighter. The grandmother expressed deep concern and requested officials help her daughter receive addiction treatment.

School principal Ms. Thitima revealed that the girl, nicknamed A, was originally cheerful before the school learned the mother was heavily addicted to drugs. The school had previously paid the girl for helping collect garbage but discontinued this after discovering the mother was using the money to buy methamphetamine. Instead, the school now provides the girl with lunch, boiled eggs, instant noodles, and canned fish to take home. Recently, teachers noticed bruises on the girl's body, irregular school attendance, and that her grandmother sometimes had to bring her at midday. Upon questioning, they learned the mother was confining her and preventing school attendance, forcing her to work at home instead. The latest discovery of burns on her hand from a lighter and cuts on her legs prompted the school to urgently contact village leaders and relevant agencies for intervention.

Police took Ms. Noi into custody and transported her to Udon Thani Central Hospital for drug addiction assessment and treatment.

Police Rescue Chinese Man Victimized by Call Center Scam Gang Attempting to Extort 2 Million Yuan from Father

Thai police rescued a Chinese man trapped by an international call center scam gang that had already extorted approximately 10 million baht from him and demanded additional ransom from his father.

5h ago Khaosod

Police rescued a Chinese victim of a call center fraud gang that attempted to extort 2 million yuan (approximately 10 million baht) from his father.

On June 29, 2569, Pol. Lt. Gen. Suwat Gerd-Gaew, commander of Region 10 Police, conducted an inspection at Pathumwan Police Station after receiving notification from Chinese nationals working in Thailand who had been coordinated by Chinese police officials to track down Mr. MA MINGZE, a Chinese national and victim of the call center gang.

Pol. Col. Sirichard Janpromma, commander of Pathumwan Police Station in the incident area, reported that upon learning of the case, he ordered the investigation unit and patrol teams to investigate. Through investigation, it was found that after the victim entered Thailand and checked into a hotel in Rong Muang Subdistrict, Pathumwan District, Bangkok, CCTV footage examination revealed the victim arrived and stayed alone with no accomplices present. Police coordinated with tourist police and immigration officers to track the victim until they could safely assist him in his hotel room.

During interrogation, the victim stated that criminals impersonating Chinese police officers threatened him by phone, accusing him of involvement in criminal cases and deceiving him into transferring money to settle the cases. The victim made four transfers totaling approximately 2 million yuan (about 10 million baht) to Malaysia. The gang then deceived him into traveling to Thailand, claiming they would arrange his deportation back to China. They demanded he request money from his parents for ransom.

Since the victim's bank account had been frozen and transfers couldn't be completed, the gang devised another scheme, claiming he could return to China but had to go through Thailand first, and would then travel to Myanmar to re-enter via natural border crossings. The gang likely fabricated this story to extort more money from the victim's parents.

Initially, arrangements were made for the victim's father to travel from China to Thailand to pick up his son. The father arrived at 07:10 on June 29, 2569 via AK890 flight before traveling to Pathumwan Police Station to receive his son.

On June 29 at the Naga Landmark shrine along the Mekong River in Nakhon Phanom province, 49-year-old Bangkok businesswoman Ms. Thanphat Somngam, accompanied by her husband Col. Thongchai Saman and their entourage, organized a gratitude ceremony to the Naga King deity. After receiving the blessing that led to her business success and accumulated wealth of 10 million baht, she fulfilled her vow by bringing country singer Tai Orrathai to perform a mini-concert. More than 1,000 fans of the singer attended the packed event.

Before the performance, Ms. Thanphat set up an elaborate offering table with sacred items including the Phra Sri Sattanakharaj Naga statue, seven-colored sacred water, seven types of fruits, boiled eggs, garlands, and rice mixed with flowers. A renowned Brahmin priest conducted the blessing ritual for the deities and spirits. The 50-member host party then scattered rice and flowers on the offering table as auspicious ritual, after which dancers performed. Singer Tai Orrathai posed for photos with the hosts and their fans before beginning her mini-concert performance.

During the Brahmin priest's ritual, incense ash mysteriously revealed three digits—389 or 983—causing excitement among attendees. Lottery enthusiasts immediately photographed the numbers to purchase tickets for combinations 89, 98, 39, 93, 38, and 83 in hopes of winning in the upcoming lottery draw. The grand Naga King gratitude festival will continue from July 7-13. Ms. Thanphat revealed she is originally from Lopburi province but conducts business in Bangkok. She visited the Naga shrine years ago requesting blessings for her trade, and was amazed by her rapid success within the first four months. Grateful for her good fortune of 10 million baht, she organized this thank-you event with 15 dining tables for guests and her husband's friends, attended by approximately 1,000 people.

5h ago Khaosod

A passenger has filed a complaint against a Future-Nakhon Nayok van service after the driver abandoned eight passengers on the roadside, claiming mechanical failure before driving away. On June 29, 2025, the news team received a complaint from Usat, 56, who was returning from visiting her granddaughter in Nual Chan and boarded the van at 4 p.m. at the Future van terminal. Eight passengers had purchased tickets together, and the journey proceeded normally until the driver suddenly announced the vehicle had broken down, made jerking motions, and claimed the engine wouldn't turn over. He ordered all passengers to exit near Thanyaburi, and they expected a replacement van to arrive. However, after everyone disembarked, the van drove away without issue. Usat, who recorded the entire incident, expressed her frustration: "Why did you do this? Your van wasn't actually broken. Once you dropped us off, you drove away just fine. It's not about the fare—it's about the mistreatment and pity for the other passengers." She noted that fortunately, another kind driver helped them by charging a reduced fare to reach their final destination in Nakhon Nayok province.

Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Ananda Asvabhokhin in Money Laundering Case Linked to Dhammakaya Temple; Doctor Claims Critical Illness with Risk of Death

Court issues arrest warrant for real estate developer Ananda Asvabhokhin in a money laundering case linked to Dhammakaya Temple, though his doctors claim he is critically ill with kidney failure and at risk of death if moved from hospital c

5h ago Khaosod

A court has issued an arrest warrant for Ananda Asvabhokhin, a prominent real estate developer, in a money laundering case connected to Dhammakaya Temple since March 2025. Medical doctors have argued he is critically ill with a risk of death if removed from a sterile hospital environment. On June 29, 2025, the Supreme Prosecutor ordered charges to be filed against Asvabhokhin for conspiracy and money laundering offenses under the Anti-Money Laundering Act of 1999 (sections 5, 9, 60) and the 2015 amendment (section 10). The charges stem from an investigation by the Special Cases Investigation Division related to embezzlement at Khlong Jarn Credit Union Cooperative. Lawyer Khetsmark Kanbai, representing victims in the money laundering case, submitted a petition to the Special Prosecutor's Office to accelerate legal proceedings against those involved in the money laundering case with Dhammakaya Temple and Venerable Thammacho (Luang Pu Dhammachayo) and associates.

According to reports from the Special Cases Investigation Division, prosecutors requested the arrest warrant in March 2025 because Asvabhokhin failed to appear for prosecution. The court approved the warrant on March 18. It is believed Asvabhokhin is currently outside Thailand, and investigators are actively pursuing his whereabouts.

Previously, the Special Prosecutor's Office Unit 4 had scheduled Asvabhokhin to appear on April 2, 2567 (2024) for prosecution filing. However, he failed to appear, requesting postponement citing illness and providing medical documentation. The hearing was rescheduled to May 24 and again to June 24 for the same health reasons.

Upon investigation, the Special Cases Investigation Division questioned the treating physician about Asvabhokhin's condition. Medical findings revealed he has end-stage kidney failure, had kidney transplant surgery in Australia, but the transplanted kidney failed completely (kidney rejection). As a result, he requires dialysis once weekly for life until a second kidney transplant can be performed. Currently, transplant is not possible due to serious complications including acute heart failure, brain hemorrhage, and immune deficiency. Medical authorities stated moving him from the sterile hospital environment could cause infection and death, and he requires specialized medical care with modern equipment. He remains a critically ill patient at constant risk of death if moved from his current care setting.

Narcotics Bureau Coordinates with AFP to Expand International Heroin Trafficking Network Investigation, Raids Woman's Apartment in Thailand

5h ago Khaosod

On June 29, Ms. Areepa Ngernbamrung, Deputy Secretary-General of the Narcotics Bureau and spokesperson for the office, briefed the media on developments regarding an airline crew member arrested by Australian authorities in Melbourne for attempting to smuggle Class 1 narcotics (heroin). The Narcotics Bureau and AFP have maintained cooperation under "Joint Special Operation Taskforce Storm" since 2016, exchanging intelligence, conducting arrests, and seizing assets from suspects both in Thailand and Australia as well as those who have fled to other countries.

Most recently, the Narcotics Bureau exchanged information with the AFP and obtained clear evidence. The bureau will accelerate the investigation to dismantle the heroin smuggling network to Australia. On the same day, authorities raided the apartment of the woman suspect and questioned her boyfriend as part of the investigation to identify drug owners and network members involved in smuggling narcotics to Australia. Officials are currently gathering evidence and tracking accomplices for prosecution.

The Narcotics Bureau spokesperson explained screening measures at Thai airports, noting that Airports of Thailand currently uses X-ray scanning on all passengers' carry-on and checked baggage to detect dangerous objects, weapons, and prohibited items. Crew members, who have direct access to aircraft and operational areas, undergo the same security screening. The bureau is coordinating with Airports of Thailand to enhance security measures and strengthen screening procedures.

Additionally, the Narcotics Bureau has integrated efforts between Thai and international law enforcement agencies to combat transnational drug trafficking through airport and port interdiction task forces (AITF and SITF) and expanded regional cooperation through ASEAN networks (AAITF and ASITF). Training programs have been established for transport operators and private companies to prevent drug smuggling through international parcels.

Ms. Areepa warned the public to strictly avoid accepting packages or luggage to carry across borders, as drug trafficking networks commonly hire couriers to transport contraband. Those caught unknowingly carrying drugs face serious charges with penalties ranging from life imprisonment to death under both Thai and destination country laws, particularly for Class 1 narcotics smuggling. The public can report suspected drug activity to the Narcotics Bureau hotline at 1386, available 24/7.
