Motorcyclist Files Assault Complaint After Luxury Benz Confrontation
3 Aug Khaosod

A motorcyclist has filed an assault complaint, claiming he can identify his attacker by face, following an altercation with a woman driving a luxury Mercedes-Benz. Police have ordered a physical examination and are preparing to call both parties for mediation.

A social media video captured a man on a motorcycle pulling alongside a Mercedes-Benz, later identified as a rare special edition with only 120 units in Thailand; the specific color shown in the clip exists on just 18 vehicles. A woman was driving the car with friends when the motorcyclist allegedly struck and kicked the vehicle's window, causing damage. The woman subsequently filed a police report.

On August 3, 2025, Police Lieutenant Colonel Pramote Chanbunkaew, commander of Phetchkasem Police Station, addressed the ongoing case involving the motorcyclist who lost his temper after hearing the Benz's horn and was allegedly assaulted. He said that after the incident, the motorcyclist came to file an assault complaint, claiming he remembers his attacker's face but does not know his name.

Police have sent the motorcyclist for medical examination and ordered investigators to review CCTV footage to locate and summon the woman driver for mediation negotiations. The case is currently under active investigation.

Undercover Thai police expose black dollar scam operated by 4 foreignersLegacyPolice arrested four foreign nationals in Bangkok after uncovering a black money scam that targeted wealthy investors by claiming ordinary paper could be turned into genuine US dollar banknotes using special chemicals. Officers from the Metropolitan Police Bureau were conducting a crackdown on foreign drug dealing networks in Soi Nana when the investigation led them to a group suspected of operating the black dollar scam. According to police, investigators learned that the group targeted affluent people attending luxury events. Undercover officers therefore posed as wealthy investors and attended a high-end automotive exhibition where the suspects were reportedly seeking potential victims. Photo via Facebook/ THAI PRESS Police said the suspects approached the undercover officers and claimed they had earned money from illegal businesses overseas. They alleged that about US$6 million (approximately 200 million baht) in cash had been seized by customs officials. The group told the undercover officers that the banknotes had been coated with chemicals and could be restored to normal. They claimed they needed 150,000 baht to pay customs officials to recover the cash and asked the undercover officers to provide the money in advance. According to police, the suspects promised the undercover officers 40% of the recovered funds in return for the payment. They later arranged another meeting to demonstrate the process they claimed could restore the banknotes. Photo via Facebook/ THAI PRESS During the meeting, the suspects produced white sheets of paper cut to the size of US dollar bills before washing them with a chemical solution, causing them to appear as genuine banknotes. Police said the demonstration confirmed the fraud, prompting undercover officers to identify themselves and arrest the suspects. Searches were later carried out at accommodation in the Lasalle and Hua Mak areas of Bangkok. Officers seized about 60,000 blank paper sheets, counterfeit US dollar banknotes and chemical substances believed to have been used in the operation. Photo via Facebook/ THAI PRESS According to investigators, the group used iodine tincture to conceal genuine US dollar banknotes, making them appear blank. They then washed the notes with a solution containing vitamin C dissolved in water to restore their appearance, falsely claiming the process required a special chemical. The four accused were identified by police as 35 year old Liberian national Remy, 40 year old Liberian national David, a 35 year old Cameroonian woman and a 21 year old Cameroonian woman. Police said Remy denied the allegations, claiming he could not remember committing any offence. David allegedly admitted the group intended to defraud the undercover officers. The statements of the two Cameroonian women were not disclosed. The story Undercover Thai police expose black dollar scam operated by 4 foreigners as seen on Thaiger News.

A dashcam video shared on social media captured a vehicle spewing thick white smoke on the uphill road to Khao Katae in Phuket on August 3, severely obscuring the view of other drivers. The smoke poured continuously from the vehicle in the Karon subdistrict, Mueang district, causing following drivers to slow down and exercise extra caution to avoid accidents. Online commenters speculated the cause could be engine overheating, a burst turbo, engine flooding, or oil combustion, with many debating whether the driver should have immediately shut off the engine.

Anutin Says UN Expert Ignored Thailand's Border Clash Account

PM Anutin rejected a UN human rights expert's comments on Thailand-Cambodia border clashes, saying the official hadn't heard Thailand's account before making statements about displaced Cambodians.

Anutin Says UN Expert Ignored Thailand's Border Clash Account
3 Aug Khaosod

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on Monday rejected comments by a United Nations human rights expert regarding the recent Thailand-Cambodia border clashes, saying the official had not yet heard Thailand's side of the story.

Anutin was responding to a statement by Tom Andrews, the UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Cambodia, who said around 650,000 Cambodian people had been displaced following the border clashes.

"The Foreign Ministry will provide details. At this stage, Mr. Andrews' statement was made without hearing information from the Thai side," Anutin told reporters on August 3, 2026.

"Thailand does not accept that opinion," he said, urging the public to wait for clarification from the Foreign Ministry.

The prime minister also addressed Cambodia's plan to submit a letter to the United Nations on August 7, 2026 seeking recognition of the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU 43) and a 1:200,000 scale map as a basis for border negotiations with Thailand.

Anutin said Thailand had maintained a clear position on the agreement and that any negotiations must follow established principles.

"We have always adhered to our principles regarding MOU 43. If Cambodia wants to negotiate with Thailand, it must first consider the conditions required for talks to take place," he said.

"No one can force us, regardless of where they submit complaints. We are confident in our position and do not need to explain ourselves to anyone," Anutin added.

Regarding maritime boundaries, Anutin said that after the cancellation of the 2001 MOU (MOU 44), discussions would need to proceed through compulsory conciliation under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982.

Thailand Disputes UN Report on Cambodia Human Rights

Thailand's foreign minister rejected a UN human rights report on Cambodia, saying it lacked balance and failed to include Thailand's perspective on border clashes, displaced persons, and migrant workers.

Thailand Disputes UN Report on Cambodia Human Rights
3 Aug Khaosod

BANGKOK — Thailand on Monday rejected several points in a report by UN special rapporteur Tom Andrews on the human rights situation in Cambodia, saying the document lacked balance and did not take into account Thailand's perspective.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow said the government disagreed with and did not accept several issues mentioned in Andrews' report, particularly those relating to the recent Thailand-Cambodia border clashes, displaced people and Cambodian workers returning from Thailand.

Sihasak stressed that the report was not an official United Nations report, but rather a report prepared by Andrews under a mandate from the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC). The report has not yet gone through the UNHRC review process, where member states can discuss and provide observations.

"As someone who previously served as president of the UN Human Rights Council, I believe the work of special rapporteurs must be based on neutrality, fairness and impartiality," Sihasak said.

"However, we are concerned that many issues in the report refer to Thailand without first consulting the Thai side," he added.

The foreign minister said Thailand was particularly concerned that Cambodia had highlighted only parts of the report that referred to Thailand and used them for political purposes, despite an agreement between the two countries to avoid attacks against each other in international forums following ASEAN discussions.

Thailand also objected to Andrews' statement that around 650,000 Cambodians had been displaced and unable to return home following the border conflict.

Sihasak said the figure was inaccurate, arguing that it appeared to include Cambodian villagers who had lived in areas claimed by Thailand for more than 50 years and should not be classified as internally displaced people.

He said Thailand had also evacuated around 400,000 people during the clashes but had managed the situation and taken care of its citizens.

"What Thailand cannot accept is why the report does not mention Thailand's losses at all — including civilian deaths and attacks on hospitals and schools," Sihasak said.

"The report must present the losses suffered by the Thai side in order to be fair," he added.

Sihasak also rejected claims that Cambodian workers in Thailand had been forced to return home, saying Thailand had not pushed out workers, whether they were legally or illegally employed.

He said Cambodia had requested that its workers return, but many later faced a lack of jobs and became a burden for the Cambodian government.

The minister said Thailand also shared concerns raised in the report about political freedoms, freedom of expression and transnational crime, including scam networks linked to human trafficking in Cambodia.

As a member of the UNHRC, Thailand plans to raise these issues at the council's next session and seek further action, while urging Cambodia to take stronger measures against scam operations, he said.

Nine Civic Groups Push for Death Penalty in Serious Murder Cases

Nine civic groups petitioned Parliament on August 3 to enforce capital punishment for aggravated murder cases, citing recent brutal killings that have undermined Thailand's safety reputation among citizens and tourists.

Nine Civic Groups Push for Death Penalty in Serious Murder Cases
3 Aug Khaosod

Nine volunteer networks led by Tantakun Jit Isara, chairman of the Santiprachadhamma Club, submitted a letter at Parliament on August 3 to Lt. Gen. Vichai Sangkhapraiphat, advisor to the House Speaker, along with party officials Chris Botrananthorn and Angsana Niamvanichkul. The coalition of nine civic groups—including One Foundation, Saiymai Tong Sarot, Good Organization Foundation, People for People Group, and several others—called for the government to strictly enforce capital punishment in cases of aggravated homicide, especially where offenders have a history of repeat crimes. Tantakun stated that decisive action must be taken against murderers and sexual offenders, with capital punishment applied and sentencing reductions, pardons, and early releases reviewed. He emphasized that strict enforcement of the 2022 law preventing repeat sexual and violent offenses must be strengthened. He noted that recent brutal killings, including the murder of two Russian sisters and Thai nationals, have damaged Thailand's safety reputation among citizens and tourists. Tantakun called for comprehensive justice reform from investigation through imprisonment and rehabilitation to ensure capital punishment is applied and Article 52 loopholes—which allow sentence reductions from one-third to life imprisonment or reductions to 25-50 years—are closed. He argued that multiple sentence reductions ultimately result in criminals serving only a few years, making Thai law enforcement a 'paper tiger' that criminals no longer fear. He added that the civic network supports capital punishment for heinous crimes and serious drug offenses, and believes the entire justice system must be reformed to protect the lives and safety of Thai citizens and foreign visitors alike.

Thailand Hosts ASEAN Qualifications Framework Meeting

Thailand hosted the 17th ASEAN Qualifications Reference Framework meeting in Bangkok to standardize education credentials across Southeast Asia, enabling easier workforce movement and employment recognition throughout the region.

Thailand Hosts ASEAN Qualifications Framework Meeting
3 Aug Khaosod

On August 3 at the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, the Office of the Education Council hosted the 17th ASEAN Qualifications Reference Framework (AQRF) Committee Meeting and related meetings (August 3-5). Deputy Education Minister Akkarun Kanngkittinant chaired the opening ceremony, joined by Education Council Secretary-General Prof. Dr. Prawit Aerawhorn, council vice-secretaries Dr. Niti Nacit and Dr. Supchai Janpum, and numerous senior education officials.

The 17th AQRF Committee Meeting covered three main discussion points: developing curriculum registration standards, competency-based curricula, and micro-credentials; establishing a national credit bank system to support flexible learning pathways and lifelong learning for Thais; and benchmarking the ASEAN Qualifications Framework with regional frameworks, including implementing Criterion 11 to align Thailand's National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and AQRF designations on national credential documents.

The implementation of Criterion 11 aims to standardize AQRF level designations across ASEAN member credentials, enabling reliable qualification comparisons and labor mobility across the region. This approach accommodates diverse national qualification systems while promoting efficient regional workforce movement.

Deputy Minister Akkarun stated that the AQRF meetings have continuously advanced standardized qualifications across ASEAN member states, enabling graduates to work throughout the region. He noted that the government has integrated efforts across the Education, Labor, and Commerce ministries to ensure students graduate with clear employment prospects both domestically and internationally. He emphasized that establishing common ASEAN standards will allow Thailand to send quality workers abroad while receiving skilled workers, positioning Thai graduates for ASEAN and global opportunities.

TISCO Auto Cash Launches Debt Consolidation Campaign for Car Owners

TISCO Auto Cash is offering car owners a way to consolidate multiple debts into a single loan with fixed interest rates starting at 0.49% monthly, using their vehicle as collateral through December 2025.

TISCO Auto Cash Launches Debt Consolidation Campaign for Car Owners
3 Aug Khaosod

TISCO Auto Cash has launched a 'Consolidate Debt Easily in One Place' campaign targeting car owners to combine multiple debts into a single manageable loan, simplifying administration and accelerating debt repayment. Vipa Mettaviharn, director of multi-purpose credit and direct sales at TISCO Bank, revealed that household debt remains a significant challenge for Thais in 2025, with 78.86% carrying formal system debt, 13.72% carrying both formal and informal debt, and 7.43% carrying only informal debt. Much of this stems from borrowing across multiple channels—bank loans, credit cards, product installment plans, and online lending platforms—reducing financial liquidity and affecting daily living standards.

Many Thais currently juggle multiple debts, bearing interest from various sources while struggling with complex repayment management. TISCO Auto Cash launched this campaign as an alternative solution, allowing borrowers to consolidate multiple accounts into a single debt. The program suits those seeking to close high-interest credit card balances, personal loans, or escape minimum payment traps, streamlining multi-source repayments, enabling efficient financial planning, and accelerating debt clearance.

Borrowers wishing to settle or close existing debts—whether credit card balances, personal loans, or minimum payment installments—can use their vehicle as collateral under the 'Consolidate Debt Easily in One Place' campaign. Eligible vehicles include sedans, pickup trucks, and cargo trucks; no vehicle registration transfer is required. Vehicle age plus repayment term cannot exceed 25 years, and approval ceilings reach 100% of assessed vehicle value.

Fixed interest rates start at 0.49% monthly (effective annual rate 12–24%), with repayment options from 6 to 72 months and flexibility to make early repayment or lump-sum payments without penalty. The campaign runs through December 30, 2025, subject to bank-set lending criteria. Interested applicants can complete the online form at www.TISCOAutoCash.com for initial assessment and document guidance before applying at any TISCO branch nationwide. For more information, contact TISCO Contact Center at 02-080-6000 or 02-633-6000 (press 3) or 02-123-4000, or visit Facebook: TISCOAutoCash and LINE: @TISCOAutoCash.

Nan Villages Struggle 50 Years Without Bridge Over Stream

Farmers in four Nan villages have struggled for 50 years without a bridge over Samun Stream, forcing them to manually drag crops across water during monsoon season and causing significant product damage and transport delays.

Nan Villages Struggle 50 Years Without Bridge Over Stream
3 Aug Khaosod

Residents and farmers from 3-4 villages in Sanean Subdistrict, Muang District, Nan Province are suffering severe hardship due to difficulties transporting agricultural products across Samun Stream, a critical and heavily used route for moving crops year-round, including rambutan, durian, corn, and rubber to outside markets.

On August 3, 2025, Monnchai Leipaiyat, village headman of Moo 10 Baan Laibeya, explained that during heavy rains and monsoon flooding, water levels in Samun Stream rise and completely inundate the area, making all vehicle and pedestrian crossings impossible. During harvest season, farmers resort to packing agricultural products into sacks, binding them with rope, and manually dragging the sacks across the water to the other side—an exhausting and inefficient process.

This method impacts harvest time, causes worker fatigue during transport, and importantly, damages some of the produce. Residents and farmers have endured this hardship for over 50 years.

Currently, many agricultural products serve as the primary income for farmers in the area. They are requesting a strong bridge across Samun Stream to transport agricultural goods, which would significantly improve the quality of life for residents and farmers.

Sanean Subdistrict Administrative Organization (SAO) official Sanseang Chaephaang revealed that while residents and farmers want the bridge, the project requires substantial funding—estimated at 1-2 million baht or more—exceeding the SAO's budget capacity to implement alone. The SAO is requesting support from relevant government agencies to fund construction of a permanent bridge across Samun Stream to establish a stable transportation route.
