Phuket City District officials raided a balloon-shooting stall after it was reported to be operating illegal gambling during a shrine event held as part of the Vegetarian Festival. On October 10, 2026 at 10:20 PM, Phuket City District Chief Hiran Hidjan, together with members of the Phuket City District Volunteer Defense Corps, inspected the area following complaints about unlawful gambling inside the shrine's event grounds during the annual observance of the vegetarian precepts. The inspection aimed to curb activities inappropriate for the festival atmosphere, particularly those deemed disguised gambling in the form of game stalls and amusement activities. Officers found a stall offering shooting-gallery and balloon-pop games where players paid money for ammunition or darts and could win dolls or prizes upon success. Authorities considered this to be unlicensed gambling for profit. Consequently, they arrested one male suspect, seized the evidence, and charged him with operating an unlicensed shooting-gallery gambling activity under Clause F, Number 16 of the gambling schedule. The suspect and seized items were taken to the Phuket City District Office (Security Division) for processing and then forwarded to the Phuket City Police Station for further legal action.
