Thailand Launches Biodiversity Forum to Drive Bioeconomy Growth
7h ago Khaosod

Dr. Ravewan Pooridej, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, announced that Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin has designated him to chair the opening of the Biodiversity & Bioeconomy Forum 2026, an academic conference on biodiversity and sustainable utilization. Organized by the Bioeconomy Development Office (BEDO), the event operates under the theme "Nature Positive Created by All" to advance the ministry's conservation, restoration, and sustainable biodiversity policies while mobilizing all sectors to strengthen Thailand's bioeconomy.

The permanent secretary emphasized that the ministry prioritizes concrete biodiversity policy implementation through multi-sector collaboration between government, private sector, academia, and the public. The goal is to balance natural resource conservation with valuable, sustainable use while increasing economic value from biological resources while maintaining ecosystem abundance.

Dr. Ravewan noted that the Nature Positive concept—restoring and regenerating nature—is a global priority the ministry systematically pursues through natural resource conservation, biodiversity restoration, climate change response, and multi-sector cooperation mechanisms. Achieving this requires participation from everyone, not single agencies.

The ministry is also developing economic mechanisms supporting conservation, including Biodiversity Credits to incentivize businesses to integrate environmental considerations into investment and operations, driving economic growth alongside environmental restoration.

Dr. Tanit Changthawar, BEDO Director, stated the forum marks a significant milestone as BEDO approaches its 20th anniversary, aiming to elevate biodiversity implementation aligned with global direction through three strategies: conservation, sustainable use, and mainstreaming biodiversity across all sectors. Special emphasis includes promoting the private sector through the ACT-D Pathway to Nature Positive project to elevate nature-friendly business practices meeting international standards.

The Biodiversity & Bioeconomy Forum 2026 serves as a crucial platform for exchanging knowledge, innovation, and experience from all sectors while building cooperation networks, transforming concepts into practical action to propel Thailand toward a biodiversity-based growth society with a stable, sustainable long-term bioeconomy.

Thailand Real Estate Slows as Developers Shift Strategy

Thailand's real estate market is slowing as developers shift away from budget condos toward mid-to-high-end projects, with strict lending policies and weak consumer purchasing power dampening new launches despite rising average prices. Logi

Thailand Real Estate Slows as Developers Shift Strategy
7h ago Khaosod

Cushman & Wakefield Thailand reveals that Thailand's real estate market in the second half of 2025 is marked by cautious developer strategies, with companies slowing new project launches while accelerating inventory clearance to maintain cash flow. The firm notes that developers are shifting away from low-rise budget condominiums toward mid-to-high-end projects along BTS lines and high-potential areas, driving average condo launch prices to their highest levels since the COVID-19 pandemic began, despite overall new project volumes remaining below pre-pandemic levels.

Surachet Kongchip, head of research and advisory at Cushman & Wakefield Thailand, explains that the broader economic recovery remains incomplete, consumer purchasing power is fragile, and financial institutions maintain strict lending policies. Bangkok's Q2 saw only approximately 2,300 new condominium units launched, considered low, though the second half is expected to see more staggered releases if developers proceed as planned.

Warat Sirisaksanukhul, senior manager of capital markets and investment, notes that Bangkok's land market has transitioned from continuous price appreciation into a balanced state with some softening in certain locations, as the condominium market—previously a major land price driver—has slowed since the COVID period. Land developers now show increased caution in acquisitions while landowners face no urgency to sell, creating a clear "buyer's market." Sirisaksanukhul recommends landowners without immediate sale needs to consider 10-30 year leases for steady income and tax benefits, particularly for hotel and data center developments, which represent emerging market demand.

Data centers represent a particularly strong opportunity, with Thailand advancing toward "developed market" status. Combined operational, under-construction, and approved projects will support more than 1,500 megawatts of capacity, reflecting long-term growth in digital industries and foreign investment.

Pongphan Ployachart, head of logistics and industrial operations, reports that logistics and industrial parks remain the strongest-growing segment in the second half, with the Eastern Economic Corridor continuing as the primary investment hub. However, Chachoengsao Province faces water and electricity constraints, prompting data center investors to explore alternatives like Samut Prakan, which offers superior infrastructure despite higher land costs. Warehouse and factory rental rates continue climbing steadily since 2020, reflecting sustained logistics sector demand.

On July 7, 2025, Pol. Lt. Gen. Surphol Preembhut, commander of the Cyber Suppression Division, along with Pol. Col. Vivat Khamchanakij, deputy commander, led officers in executing search warrants at five locations in Prachauthit sois 16 and 27, Bangmod, Thung Khru, Bangkok. The operation targeted a major online e-cigarette distribution network. Initial searches at locations 1-3, residential homes on Prachauthit Soi 27, found no violations. Location 4 yielded packages of e-cigarettes concealed in a shed. Location 5, at the end of Prachauthit Soi 16, proved most significant—officers discovered two single-story structures serving as a warehouse and packing facility, along with a black Daihatsu van loaded with packages ready for courier delivery. In total, approximately 20,000 e-cigarette units were seized, and five family members working as facility managers and packers were taken into custody. Police found the operation was selling e-cigarettes online through a LINE account "lover___" after undercover test purchases confirmed the operation. The contraband originated from a neighboring country, entered Thailand through the southern region, and was redistributed from Bangkok. E-cigarette sales have become increasingly restricted, prompting sellers to move operations to social media. All evidence was seized as exhibits, and suspects were referred to Ratchaburi Station for legal proceedings.

Man Attacks Police Officers With Steel Rod

A man wielding an iron rod attacked traffic police officers in Saraburi province, injuring two before fleeing; authorities are searching for the suspect, believed to be in a deranged state.

Man Attacks Police Officers With Steel Rod
7h ago Khaosod

A deranged man wielding an iron rod attacked traffic police officers in Saraburi city, injuring two officers before fleeing. Police have launched a manhunt after a Facebook user shared video of the incident.

The attack occurred when Saraburi city police officers were responding to check on a man acting erratically on the roadside. Instead of cooperating, the man grabbed an iron rod and attacked the officers, causing injuries before escaping under cover of darkness.

Footage from the incident shows a shirtless man in shorts running across the street toward a parked police van. He appeared to retrieve a weapon before rushing back toward two traffic police officers. He violently attacked one officer, knocking him to the ground, while the other officer retreated. The suspect continued throwing objects at police from the rear of the van before fleeing into the darkness.

On July 7, 2026, reporters visited the scene near a rice porridge shop on Pichai Rannronggsongkram Road in Pak Phrao subdistrict, Muang district, Saraburi province. A witness identified as Mr. B, 36, a shop employee present during the incident, recounted that the attack occurred around 9 p.m. while he was working. He heard shouting and sounds of violence outside, then witnessed a shirtless man resembling a vagrant clashing with police officers. Mr. B noted there appeared to be only two police officers present, though some civilians helped intervene. The suspect appeared to be approximately 30-40 years old, but darkness made details unclear. He is suspected to have been in a deranged state, possibly under the influence of drugs, before fleeing.

Rerng Maj. Nathchakir Maliwetchepong, deputy commander of crime suppression at Saraburi city police station, disclosed that officers had initially responded to a dispute call at a hotel. While en route, they spotted a man acting erratically on the roadside and stopped to investigate. As officers approached, the man suddenly attacked them. Initially, police were unaware he was armed, but he was wielding an iron rod. During the struggle, he swung the rod at officers, striking one in the mouth, causing his lips to split and requiring stitches. The other officer was hit on the left cheekbone and also injured.

Both officers sustained non-serious injuries and were cleared by doctors to recover at home. The suspect remains at large. Police are urging the public to report any sightings of a man matching the attacker's description in the video. Preliminary information suggests the suspect may be suffering from a mental health condition resulting in his deranged state.

On July 7, 2026, Surapong Intharathavorn, Secretary-General of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), announced that the NACC board has indicted Withaya Somsrisomsakul and five others for conspiring to solicit 6 million baht as compensation to encourage officials to release British national Ritesh Patel on bail. Patel had been detained after illegally entering Thailand using someone else's travel documents.

According to the investigation, police arrested Patel on June 27, 2025, after he entered Thailand illegally using falsified travel documents. He was held at the Phuket Immigration Bureau. Patel's friend then contacted intermediaries to arrange his release on bail. On June 29, 2025, an intermediary contacted Withaya Somsrisomsakul, who claimed to know Colonel Rames Kaewsuengneoen, a police academy classmate of the Deputy Police Commissioner. Rames reportedly had authority over foreign detention matters and promised to help secure Patel's release.

Withaya instructed the intermediary to transfer 1 million baht initially to an account of Aphirak Thiengthum. Later, Withaya claimed that Colonel Rames needed 6 million baht total to coordinate with immigration officials. The intermediary met Withaya at the foreign detention facility at the Bangkok Police Club, where Withaya called Rames and handed the phone to an immigration officer. The officer stated there was no policy allowing visits and no orders from superiors authorizing anyone's visit.

Withaya then said the money needed to be arranged first. The intermediary instructed Thiraworn Khiewngam to prepare additional funds, and Withaya requested a transfer of 5 million baht more to accounts of Nattnaree Boonma and Thipsuda Insongjaidee as instructed. However, Patel's case remained unresolved.

Thailand Taps $4.7 Trillion Pink Economy Opportunity

Thailand Taps $4.7 Trillion Pink Economy Opportunity
7h ago Khaosod

Thailand is positioning itself to capitalize on the global Pink Economy, valued at over $4.7 trillion USD, with continuous growth potential. As the country advances toward hosting World Pride 2030—expected to generate around 24 billion baht in economic value—the real question is not whether opportunities exist, but how Thailand can translate this potential into measurable economic growth. At the PRIDE MOVE: Thailand Pride Economy Forum 2026, held at True Digital Park, Dr. Theeradej Damrongplasit, CEO of True Corporation's enterprise business group, highlighted the company's capacity to combine Mobility Data Platform and GeoAnalytics capabilities to help government, business, and tourism sectors understand city readiness, travel patterns, and market opportunities—all while maintaining strict data privacy compliance under Thailand's PDPA law. This data-driven approach aims to unlock business opportunities for diverse sectors and serve consumers with evolving preferences.

Dr. Theeradej emphasized that Thailand's challenge is not simply being open and welcoming to diversity, but converting that diversity into economic power through data and technology. By deeply understanding LGBTQIA+ consumer and tourist behavior, both the public and private sectors can leverage insights to strengthen national preparedness across tourism, services, mobility, lifestyle, and investment. This effort will help drive the Pride Economy and propel Thailand from merely being "LGBTQIA+ Friendly" to becoming a true "LGBTQIA+ Destination."

The key to this transformation lies in understanding people through real data rather than outdated demographic assumptions. The LGBTQIA+ demographic represents high-spending consumers ready to invest in quality experiences, products, and services. True's Mobility Data and GeoAnalytics tools analyze travel and lifestyle patterns at an aggregate level without identifying individuals, complying fully with personal data protection standards. This enables businesses and relevant agencies to see how people actually move, participate in activities, live, and engage economically in different areas, helping them tailor offerings and strategies accordingly.

Three Online Gambling Admins Arrested Sneaking Back Into Thailand

Three Thai online gambling administrators were arrested while illegally crossing the Thai-Cambodia border near Sa Kaeo after losing their jobs when Cambodia shut down their operation in early 2025.

Three Online Gambling Admins Arrested Sneaking Back Into Thailand
7h ago Khaosod

At 8:00 a.m. on July 7, 2025, ranger forces from the Aranyaprathet Special Operations Unit and the 1201 Ranger Company conducted border patrol operations in the area between checkpoint 13-14 at Ban Dong Ngu, Pa Rai subdistrict, Aranyaprathet district, Sa Kaeo province. They discovered three Thai nationals—two men and one woman—who had illegally entered the country without authorization and took them into custody for questioning.

Background checks revealed that one suspect was linked to five cases and had an outstanding warrant from the Juvenile and Family Court. The other two suspects had no arrest warrants. During interrogation, all three confessed to working as online gambling website administrators in Poipet, Cambodia, since July 2024. When their employer relocated the operation from Thailand to Cambodia to escape Thai law enforcement crackdowns, they followed. In early 2025, Cambodia launched sweeps against illegal businesses and foreign workers, forcing the gambling site to shut down. Unemployed and broke, the suspects resorted to selling drinking water and lotus leaves in Poipet but struggled to earn income. With no money left and facing strict enforcement, they decided to trek back to Thailand by crossing canals and cutting through barbed-wire fences.

Authorities are holding all three suspects and have forwarded the case to Khlong Lek Police Station in Sa Kaeo province for legal proceedings. Investigators are also pursuing other network members involved in cross-border online gambling operations who remain at large.

Ban Taluk Hin School in Sak Halek District, Phichit Province, covering four villages with over 41 students, had no classroom building and resorted to temporary lessons in a mango orchard owned by a local farmer near the school. The original four classrooms, built over 50 years ago, had deteriorated badly. A school administrator auctioned off the buildings and lacked budget for reconstruction.

On July 7, 2026, Vivat Polprasert, Director of the Phichit Primary Education Zone 1 Office, announced that the Education Ministry has approved over 500,000 baht to build a temporary knock-down structure. Engineers from the education office are currently designing the building. Once completed, it will be sent to the school for construction following specifications. In the meantime, students have been relocated to Taluk Hin Temple for classes.

Regarding the auctioned buildings that sold for 40,000 baht, the acting principal confirmed the funds were recorded as government revenue. The principal also stated uncertainty about the source of a 90,000 baht donation received by the school, which remains intact in the school account and requires the school committee's approval for withdrawal.

Thai Actress Leaves Entertainment for Dubai Airline Career

Thai actress Mew Laksana Nara left the entertainment industry to become a flight attendant for Emirates Airlines in Dubai, completing her final acting role before starting her new career nearly a year ago.

Thai Actress Leaves Entertainment for Dubai Airline Career
7h ago Khaosod

Thai actress Mew Laksana Nara has taken to the skies as a flight attendant for Emirates Airlines, stepping away from entertainment after nearly one year in Dubai. She completed her final acting role as "Wannawali" in the mystery drama series "Prakaeng Saeng Chan" on Amarin TV HD Channel 34 before embarking on her new career path.

In an interview, Mew reflected on her unconventional career shift. "I've been living there almost a year now, and by August it will be exactly one year," she explained. "It's been a major decision—stepping outside my comfort zone. Acting was my first profession ever, so becoming a flight attendant was quite a leap."

When asked how long she deliberated before making this life change, Mew became emotional: "I've loved entertainment work since childhood and I truly adored it. But due to various circumstances, I had to leave performing and pursue this new path I chose for myself. It's something I love too, not something I wanted to abandon. It's a mix of sadness and regret. It's hard to explain."

She applied for the airline position almost impulsively. "I didn't think I'd actually get hired," she said. "I applied somewhat jokingly since it was my first attempt. But I studied a bit about what flight attendants do. Everyone at the interview was so prepared and polished, while I just went in casual and unprepared—yet somehow I got the job."

Mew acknowledges that her acting background has helped in her new role. "My entertainment experience helps tremendously. I don't get flustered when encountering various situations like some people might. Acting taught me how to present myself naturally without overthinking or following a script."

When asked if she'd return to acting if roles came her way, Mew hesitated: "Colleagues ask me this frequently. I do miss performing, and I'd love to act again. But there's the contract penalty issue. I'd have to pay 250,000 baht to break my agreement. I'm not wealthy—I need this income to live. For short events maybe, but for a full drama series, I'd have to think carefully about whether it's worthwhile."

As she approaches one year away from acting, Mew admitted her true feelings: "Do I miss it? Constantly. Acting is a profession I've tried so many different things in. It taught me so much."

She ended by thanking viewers of her last series: "To anyone who misses my dramas or the mermaid character I played, thank you for your support."
