At 7:30 p.m. on August 10, police officers from Srimohot Station in Prachuap Khiri Khan received a report from residents that two people had been shot and critically injured inside a car near a residential building next to the Srimohot District Office. Officers rushed to the scene and found two critically wounded victims lying in blood inside a sedan parked at the residence. The victims were identified as Ms. Chirapa, 30, a professional nurse, and Sub-Lieutenant Thanakrit, 29, a section commander at Srimohot Police Station. They were immediately transported to Srimohot Hospital before being referred for further treatment at Chao Phraya Abhaiduphbeshara Hospital.

Initial investigation revealed that the two are a married couple who wed about a year ago. At the time of the incident, they were inside the car in front of the residence, with the woman driving. The two engaged in a heated argument before two gunshots rang out in succession. The injured man's father, who was inside the house, heard the shots and rushed down to help.

At 11:55 p.m., Police Captain Somkiat Pensiri, the station commander, disclosed that the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute, possibly fueled by the couple's hot tempers and unrelated to any political or business rivalry. Investigators are still determining who fired the shots, as neither victim has died but both remain critically injured.

Van Hits Wild Elephant in Dark; Driver Injured
10 Aug Khaosod

At 3:15 a.m. on August 10, a minivan struck a wild elephant crossing Highway 344 (Ban Bueng–Kaeng route) near the Pa Yub Subdistrict Administrative Office in Kaeng District, Rayong Province. Rescue officials found the van with a crushed front end, shattered windshield, and collapsed roof and hood from the violent impact with the large elephant. The driver, a curry and rice vendor heading out for morning sales, suffered head and facial lacerations and was transported to hospital.

According to the driver's son, Thanadol, his mother saw a large object crossing the road but in the darkness initially mistook it for a tree shadow. By the time she realized it was an elephant, she could not brake in time. The collision was so forceful that the van's frame struck the elephant hard, producing a loud cry that revealed what had happened. The injured elephant trumpeted and escaped across a canal into the forest toward a water reservoir.

Wildlife officials and related agencies have mobilized teams to track the elephant, assess its injuries, and provide ongoing care.

Teacher Dies After Exam Fraud Cost Him Job Opportunity
10 Aug Khaosod

A TikTok user @jet20xx, a friend of a local teacher named Ratchapol Chaloengkhun, has spoken out about how exam fraud may have cost his friend's life. Ratchapol placed 6th in the initial civil service exam results announced on February 19, 2025, for an assistant teacher position in social studies at the Chonburi examination center. The first round of appointments only called candidates ranked up to 5th, forcing Ratchapol to seek employment as a temporary teacher at a school farther from his home. On February 23, 2025, he died in a traffic accident while commuting to work, never knowing that after cheaters were disqualified and the rankings were recalculated on July 27, 2025, his name had risen to 1st place.

The friend expressed his grief on social media, stating that without the fraud, Ratchapol would likely still be alive. He noted that Ratchapol was the family's main financial support, his mother was ill, and he had been working toward sending his younger brother through university. The friend described the tragedy as the "greatest misfortune in the civil service exam system," adding that Ratchapol never had the chance to learn of his success before his death.

Disease Control Warns Of Illegal Smoking In Police Stations

Thai authorities are reminding police stations and other government facilities that smoking is prohibited under law, with violators facing fines up to 5,000 baht. The warning follows a photo showing someone smoking in a police interrogation

Disease Control Warns Of Illegal Smoking In Police Stations
10 Aug Khaosod

The Department of Disease Control under the Ministry of Public Health has issued a warning via Facebook stating: do not smoke in police stations—it is illegal and carries a fine of up to 5,000 baht. A recent news image showed smoking occurring inside a police station interrogation room while a suspect was being detained, clearly constituting a legal violation. To address public confusion, health officials have reviewed the relevant laws.

Under the Tobacco Product Control Act B.E. 2560 and Health Ministry regulations, all public places, workplaces, and government facilities—including police stations—are designated complete no-smoking zones, whether in meeting rooms, interrogation rooms, or surrounding building areas.

Smokers who violate the no-smoking zone rules face a fine of up to 5,000 baht. Facility operators, owners, or managers who neglect enforcement, fail to publicize the rules, do not warn violators, or knowingly permit smoking in their areas face a fine of up to 3,000 baht.

Strict law enforcement, especially in government and law enforcement facilities, is essential for protecting public health and safeguarding officials and workers from the dangers of secondhand smoke.

"We do not wait for floods to occur and then help," the minister stated. "We must monitor, warn, and prepare beforehand. Alert systems must work swiftly so people have time to take shelter and reduce damage." The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has already begun installing pumps and draining water into the Mekong from 6:30 p.m. onward to enhance drainage capacity and prepare for potential heavy rains. Disaster equipment and personnel remain mobilized around the clock. The Ministry of Interior emphasizes prevention before disasters strike and timely public warnings, with all units coordinated from monitoring through assessment, alerts, and recovery operations, with public safety as the ultimate goal.
