Chiang Mai officials found no legal violations during an inspection of a Jewish religious centre on Chang Khlan Road on 14 October, while saying security agencies were continuing to monitor the situation closely. Deputy provincial governor Boonlue Thamthoranurak led officials from several agencies, including local administration, the military, immigration police, provincial cultural authorities, Chiang Mai Municipality and the Internal Security Operations Command, in the inspection of Chabad House in Muang district. The centre’s security personnel did not allow media representatives to enter the premises. Boonlue said the inspection was routine and had not been prompted by any complaints. Officials found that the centre rented a restaurant premises from a local resident under a valid lease that expires in 2028. It also held a liquor sales licence issued by the Excise Department. Regarding its use as a religious venue, Boonlue said there was currently no specific law regulating such premises for Judaism. He said the centre served Jewish visitors staying in Chiang Mai, with prayer gatherings held only on Fridays and Saturdays, typically attended by about 100-200 Israelis who came to dine there. Officials found no illegal activity during the inspection and advised the centre to ensure that religious ceremonies were conducted peacefully, he said. On security, Boonlue said relevant agencies were keeping a close watch on the centre, but there had been no unusual developments or cause for concern so far.
