Chinese and Thai Poets Mark Mid-Autumn Festival
Chinese and Thai poets gathered in Bangkok to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival and mark 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, using poetry as a bridge for cultural exchange.
The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Thailand, the China Cultural Center in Bangkok, and the Writers' Association of Thailand jointly organized the "Chinese-Thai Poets Dialogue: Rejoicing in the Full Moon Across the World" on Monday, September 21, 2026, at the China Cultural Center in Bangkok. The event celebrated the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and the People's Republic of China, marked in 2025, as well as the 2026 Mid-Autumn Festival, drawing a large turnout of participants.
The event began with a cultural performance by the ASEAN Cultural Promotion Council, followed by welcoming remarks from Zhang Ruoyu, Director of the China Cultural Center in Bangkok, and Juthamas Na Songkhla, Secretary-General of the Writers' Association of Thailand. It was officially opened by Yang Xiaolong, Cultural Counsellor of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Thailand.
Yang Xiaolong said that the China-Thailand comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership is operating at a high level, with the concept that "China and Thailand are one family" deeply rooted in people's hearts. He noted that using poetry as a medium represents a gentle yet powerful expression of this shared understanding. He expressed hope that the dialogue would create more opportunities for mutual translation and collaborative creation, breathing new life into the poetry of both countries.
Juthamas Na Songkhla emphasized that the friendship between China and Thailand is founded on 50 years of diplomatic relations and a long tradition of cultural and literary exchange. Although poetry may be written in different languages, it can transcend borders and convey emotions shared by all humanity. She expressed hope that the exchange would deepen mutual understanding and cooperation between the literary communities of the two countries, with literature and poetry serving as bridges of friendship.
Zhang Ruoyu noted that the Mid-Autumn Festival is an important traditional Chinese festival and that bringing together poets and experts from China and Thailand represented not only a literary exchange but also a meaningful meeting of cultures.
