Neighbors Plan Merit-Making for Teacher Found Dead After 10 Years
A retired science teacher in Chachoengsao was found dead inside an abandoned house after disappearing for over a decade, with neighbors now planning merit-making ceremonies they believe were never performed for him.
Neighbors in Chachoengsao are preparing merit offerings for the remains of a retired science teacher, age 70, who died alone in an abandoned house near the Chachoengsao bus station after disappearing for more than a decade. Nobody realized he had died inside the home, and neighbors believe no one has made merit offerings for him during all these years. Police received a report of human skeletal remains found in the abandoned house on Chachoengsao-Bangpakong Road in Muang Subdistrict, Muang District. Officers and rescue workers discovered the skeleton inside, and investigations confirmed the deceased was a 70-year-old retired teacher who taught science at Benjammarachairangsit School in Chachoengsao Province. Inside the house were scattered personal items and tools, while outside a sedan sat with parts and wheels removed. Neighbors reported not seeing the teacher for more than 10 years and had assumed he moved in with relatives elsewhere. The discovery came only after a burglar broke in, stole belongings, and fled in shock upon finding the bones. Police later apprehended the burglar. The house remains sealed with no family members coming forward to handle affairs. Moved neighbors, aged 53 and 92, described the teacher as formerly cheerful but recently withdrawn and reclusive. They plan to prepare food offerings to place in monks' alms bowls tomorrow morning to dedicate merit to the deceased teacher, believing no one has performed such ceremonies for him since his death. One neighbor recalled the teacher had advertised the house for sale at 3 million baht a decade ago and mentioned wanting to live alone, after which he disappeared.
