Armed Gang Shoots Teen at Yala Hospital, One Wounded
Four masked gunmen on motorcycles opened fire at a 23-year-old man and his friends behind a mosque at Yala Hospital on September 22, leaving him with minor injuries; police are investigating a suspected personal dispute.
Yala — Police responded to a report of gunfire with injuries at the rear of a mosque building within Yala Hospital grounds on the night of September 22. Deputy Superintendent Montri Kulhan from Mueang Yala Police Station led officers to the scene at 10:45 p.m. that evening. Officers found bullet marks on the building and shell casings, which were collected as evidence.
The injured party, a 23-year-old patient undergoing treatment at Yala Hospital using the alias Thaya, was hit by bullet fragments while sitting with visiting friends behind the mosque building, which adjoins the hospital fence. He sustained minor injuries to his back and is being treated in the orthopedic ward.
Initial investigation revealed that four suspects wearing masks and hooded long-sleeved shirts arrived on a red and white motorcycle and a black motorcycle. They fired an unknown firearm twice at Thaya's group, with fragments ricocheting off a wall and striking him. The gunmen then fled on their motorcycles.
Police believe the shooting stemmed from a personal dispute between the victim's group and the shooters. Investigators are reviewing closed-circuit camera footage, which may help identify and apprehend the suspects for legal action.
