Village Officials Seize Nine Methamphetamine Pills, Reject Bribe
Village officials in Mae Hong Son Province arrested a 45-year-old man carrying nine methamphetamine pills after he attempted to bribe officers with 300,000 baht during a drug patrol in the Mae Lid Luang area.
On September 22, Prasert Sai-saad, chief of Mae Hao Subdistrict in Mae Sai District, Mae Hong Son Province, led a village safety patrol to maintain security and combat drug trafficking in the Mae Lid Luang area. Officers stopped two suspects on a motorcycle displaying suspicious behavior and conducted a search. They discovered nine orange methamphetamine pills stamped with 'WY' hidden inside the right boot of one suspect. During the stop, the suspect offered 300,000 baht to officers in exchange for his release, but the team immediately rejected the offer and reported it to the district official.
District Officer Worasak Phan Thong then deployed additional administrative and police personnel to the scene. The primary suspect, a 45-year-old Thai man from Chiang Mai Province, was arrested with nine pills of methamphetamine as evidence. He faces charges of possession of Category 1 narcotics and driving under the influence of methamphetamine. A second suspect tested positive for drug use and was directed to rehabilitation. Both individuals were handed over to Mae Sai Provincial Police Station for further legal proceedings.
This operation is part of the "Operation 90 Days" drug suppression initiative, which mobilizes village chiefs, safety volunteers, territorial defense volunteers, and police to combat narcotics. The public is encouraged to report drug-related information to Mae Sai District authorities.
