Chicken egg prices in Nakhon Ratchasima have jumped roughly 5 baht per tray, creating both affordability and availability issues for consumers. A market survey found grade-zero eggs selling at 150 baht per tray, grade-one at 145 baht, grade-two at 140 baht, grade-three at 135 baht, and grade-four at 130 baht, though some retailers sourcing directly from farms have raised prices more modestly to retain regular customers.

Shop owner Tewin Wannying attributed the increase, which began about one to two months ago, to rumors that eggs are being exported abroad to countries facing shortages, leaving domestic supplies inadequate. The price hikes have forced him to prioritize sales to regular customers and restrict new customer purchases. Ormorn Sauptaveetharm, director-general of the Intellectual Property Department, announced that the department has successfully registered both "Pan Damnoen Lime" and "Nam Dok Mai Ratchaburi Mango" as new GI products for Ratchaburi province, reinforcing the quality and distinctive identity of local agricultural goods while opening new trading opportunities, raising product value, and generating income for farmers and communities.

The department is implementing the policy of Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Supakij Sutthampun, which aims to use intellectual property as a tool to increase Thai product value, create trading opportunities, and boost farmer income. The strategy focuses on accelerating GI utilization to elevate high-value agricultural products and strengthen competitiveness in global markets.

Ratchaburi province is a major agricultural production hub known for product quality, reputation, and distinctive identity. With the registration of two additional GI products, Ratchaburi now holds a total of eight GI-registered items: Dragon Fruit Ratchaburi, Bang Chai Chili, Chai Por Photaram, Bang Pae Mud Crab, Ban Ka Pineapple, Ratchaburi Sweet Coconut, Pan Damnoen Lime, and Nam Dok Mai Ratchaburi Mango. These eight products generate combined economic value exceeding 8,539 million baht annually in 2025.

"Pan Damnoen Lime" is characterized by round, flat-bottomed fruit with thin peel, smooth skin, fragrant aroma, clear white flesh, few seeds, and abundant juice with a tart but non-bitter taste. The fruit benefits from soil conditions and water sources in the Mae Klong watershed area, combined with traditional local cultivation knowledge. It currently generates approximately 716 million baht in annual economic value.

"Nam Dok Mai Ratchaburi Mango" encompasses the Golden and Nam Dok Mai Grade 4 varieties, distinguished by elongated fruit, dense and fine flesh, fiber-free texture, sweet taste, and fragrant aroma. It is popular both domestically and internationally, particularly in China, Japan, South Korea, the Middle East, and the European Union, currently generating approximately 166 million baht in annual economic value.

Ormorn stated that GI registration protects the rights of community producers, builds consumer confidence in product quality and origin, and opens pathways for product development and value addition. The Intellectual Property Department will collaborate with the province and relevant agencies to develop GI utilization throughout the value chain—from maintaining standards, building brands, and developing products to connecting with food industries, heritage tourism, and creative businesses—while expanding both domestic and international markets to create stable income and strengthen community economic development in the long term.

Chuan Leekpai, a Democratic Party list member of parliament, has publicly criticized the cycle of corruption spreading through government agencies and independent organizations. In a special address at the opening of the National Art Exhibition and International Art Exchange 2026 on August 8, Chuan argued that politics, economics, and society must uphold quality standards, otherwise people suffer. He highlighted the hypocrisy where civil servants purchase positions for hundreds of thousands of baht to earn tens of thousands annually, while politicians who spend millions buying votes view politics as a profit-driven business, perpetuating corruption that has spread to government agencies and independent bodies.

Chuan expressed concern about interference in the Senate selection process, noting that the Senate election dispute case demonstrates problems within independent organizations. On August 10, 2025, police arrested a 40-year-old man named Anucha (surname withheld) in Na Thaom subdistrict, Muang district, Phatthalung province. He had been evading a court arrest warrant issued on April 28, 2025, on charges of sexual assault with violence and threats against a person unable to resist.

The case began when the victim's mother reported the incident to Kok Changai Police Station. She explained that on January 6, 2025, her 16-year-old daughter woke to find the stepfather near her bed and he quickly left the room. The victim later experienced pain in her genital area but was initially afraid to tell her mother. Two days later, the daughter reported that the stepfather had entered her room while she slept, embraced her, and grabbed her chest. She managed to resist and escape the room to seek help.

Investigators gathered evidence and obtained an arrest warrant. When the suspect learned of the charges, he fled to Samut Prakan province before returning to rent a house in Phatthalung again, believing the matter had been forgotten. Police tracked him continuously until locating and arresting him. He has denied the allegations and has been handed over to Kok Changai Police Station for further legal proceedings.
