Chinese Family Demands Justice After Son Stabbed to Death
A 20-year-old Chinese man was stabbed to death in Chon Buri province on August 8; his family traveled from China to demand a thorough investigation and justice through Thailand's legal system.
On August 10 at 9 a.m., Zhao Haibing, the father of 20-year-old Zhao Qi, appeared outside Pattaya Provincial Court with family members and supporters who had traveled from China to follow the case and demand justice. Zhao Qi was stabbed to death in a rented room in Nai Chom Thian subdistrict, Sattahip district, Chon Buri province on the morning of August 8. The family displayed signs in Chinese, Thai, and English urging serious prosecution and asking the Thai government to ensure the safety and security of foreign nationals in Thailand.
Zhao Haibing stated through an interpreter that the family traveled to Thailand to manage their son's affairs and closely monitor the legal proceedings. He expressed profound grief over losing his 20-year-old son and hoped Thai justice would uncover the truth and provide justice for the victim. The family has questions about events before the victim went to the room, including information from the victim's friends that he had eaten with them for about three hours that evening before traveling to the room after midnight, during which a young woman had contacted him multiple times via phone and video call.
The family is requesting investigators thoroughly examine the victim's communications, including phone records, messages, and mobile phone data, as well as review CCTV footage and interview relevant witnesses to determine why the victim went to the room and what events preceded the incident. They are also asking police to investigate the 21-year-old woman who was in the room when the incident occurred, requesting authorities cross-reference phone data, messages, CCTV images, and witness statements to clarify the circumstances and uncover the truth.
Zhao Haibing stated that the family trusts Thailand as a nation governed by law and hopes to receive justice through the Thai legal system. He urged authorities to investigate every detail thoroughly and requested that society not accept one-sided information that could do injustice to the victim, demanding clear answers about what happened to his son before death. The case remains under police investigation as authorities gather evidence and witnesses to clarify the facts.
