Mother Demands Justice Seven Months After Son Hit and Killed by Chinese Driver
A mother filed a complaint seven months after her son, a Pattaya footballer, was killed when a Chinese driver reversed a truck into his motorcycle on Patthanakarn Road in Chonburi; the suspect remains at large despite an arrest warrant.
On September 16, a 41-year-old woman, her Swedish husband, and a representative from the Laem Tong Foundation traveled to Chonburi Provincial Police Headquarters holding a photograph of her son to file a complaint seeking justice. She requested that authorities accelerate the investigation into the fatal accident that claimed her son's life, as several months had passed without the suspect being brought to trial.
The incident occurred on February 20 on Patthanakarn Road near Bub Pah Restaurant in Nong Prueah Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province. While her son Tommy, a footballer for a prominent Pattaya team, was riding his black Honda PCX motorcycle, a Chinese national named Wang Qian was reversing a gray Toyota pickup truck (license plate YT-4647 Chonburi) out of the restaurant. The truck struck the motorcycle, causing fatal injuries. The family reported the incident to Nong Prueah Police, and an arrest warrant was issued, yet the suspect remains at large despite seven months passing. The family has incurred medical and related expenses totaling over 1.2 million baht and faces difficulties obtaining documents to claim reimbursement due to the missing signature of the defendant.
Police Major Settha Makalueam, head of investigations at Chonburi Provincial Police, received the complaint and pledged to escalate the case to the provincial police commander for urgent action. The family stated their only goal is to see the case proceed and the warrant suspect brought before the justice system, seeking closure and fairness for their deceased son after months of waiting.
