The 'LEARN Mobile' program transforms communities into outdoor classrooms by partnering with local elders to teach students from 12 Bangkok schools, combining hands-on learning with physical activity to develop healthier, more engaged youth

Communities Become Living Classrooms in LEARN Mobile Program
11h ago Khaosod

The 'LEARN Mobile' initiative transforms communities into dynamic learning spaces by empowering local elders as teachers and sparking children's enthusiasm for education. Student participants expressed excitement about experiencing learning outside traditional classroom walls, with one saying they had never seen anything like it before and hoping similar activities would reach other schools.

For these students, this experience goes beyond a traditional classroom confined to four walls—it opens a broader world of learning. Through diverse activities that encourage observation, hands-on experience, and participation, students gain new perspectives and discover that knowledge extends far beyond textbooks into every aspect of their lives.

The Social Promotion Foundation (สสส.) has partnered with Asorom Institute and Bangkok through the 'LEARN Mobile Community School' Open House initiative, bringing student and teacher representatives from 12 schools in Bangkok and other provinces on learning journeys rooted in real community settings. The program employs Community-Based Learning (CBL), a model used by leading schools worldwide, to create authentic learning experiences through collaboration between schools, communities, and local residents.

Niramol Rasri, director of the Social Promotion Foundation's Health Promotion Office, emphasized the foundation's commitment to building an Active Society, particularly among children and youth who currently lack sufficient physical activity according to WHO standards. Community-based learning helps children develop through hands-on practice, physical movement, self-discovery, and connecting knowledge to real community life. The initiative is part of the 'Boworn Thonburi' project, aimed at developing neighborhood-level health learning areas on Bangkok's Thonburi side through collaboration among homes, temples, and schools.

The program seeks to give children and youth genuine learning experiences combined with appropriate physical activity while developing physical literacy, ultimately fostering long-term healthy behaviors.

Veerawat Vorayun, manager of the Boworn Thonburi project at Asorom Institute, explained that this Open House aims to show school administrators, teachers, and students real-world examples of CBL implementation, including community history learning at Wat Thai, arts and culture exploration at Wat Nang Ratchaworawihan, and various other community-based activities.

DSI Summons Oil Company Executives Over Fuel Hoarding
12h ago Khaosod

On July 9th, Thitiphat Chotidetchaichainanth, secretary to the Energy Minister, announced via Facebook that the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) continues to expand its probe into fuel-related violations. The latest case, Special Case No. 59/2569, involves P.C. Siam Petroleum Company Limited in Surat Thani. What began as an investigation into fraudulent fuel transport documents has now expanded into charges of fuel hoarding and price manipulation during March.

Thitiphat confirmed that the DSI has issued summonses to the company's managing director to face charges on Monday, July 13th. This marks the third case brought against defendants under the Energy Ministry's intensified crackdown on fuel offenses.

Since Eknath Prom-in assumed the position of Energy Minister, multiple significant cases have been prosecuted. The first involved Trillion PetroTrading Company Limited, where the DSI charged Surath and associates with numerous violations including fuel adulteration, fraudulent transport documents, hoarding, price gouging, and breaches of the Prime Minister's Emergency Decree on Fuel Shortage Prevention (1973) and the Fuel Trading Act (2000). The defendants have already been informed of the charges and legal proceedings are underway.

The second case involves six refineries where defendants have received full notification of charges related to fraudulent fuel transport documents, following DSI's expansion of its investigation from fuel storage facilities in Surat Thani, Songkhla, and Chumphon. Further investigations are ongoing.

Currently, a special task force from the Energy Ministry and DSI continues inspecting fuel storage facilities in Kanchanaburi and 13 additional locations nationwide. Officials have identified concerns regarding off-system fuel transfers and hoarding during March, with evidence being compiled for legal action against all violators.

Lady Bee Film Reimagines Classic Tale Through Female Perspective

Lady Bee Film Reimagines Classic Tale Through Female Perspective
12h ago Khaosod

Writer Lab CEO Yodh Sukwivatana has unveiled the Lady Bee film project, a classical adaptation of the famous literary work Jundara that offers a fresh perspective by centering on a female character. Rather than following the protagonist Jan as in the original, this version tells the story through the eyes of Khun Boonluang, or Lady Bee, allowing audiences to understand this character with greater depth while respecting the core elements of the source material.

The production assembled an all-female creative team—including director, cinematographer, production designer, costume designer, and set coordinators—to authentically convey the female perspective throughout the filmmaking process. Actress Ingfah was recommended for the lead role by international talent agencies who recognized her potential and star quality from previous work, as well as her appeal to foreign markets. The team had previously brought Ingfah to the Cannes Film Festival to meet potential international buyers.

The script development involved extensive research and collaboration across departments, with input from marketing and distribution teams from the outset. The screenplay was tested with diverse audience groups—longtime fans of the original, new generations unfamiliar with the story, and various demographics including international investors—to gather genuine feedback and refine the material. An international script consultant was also engaged to improve the script's universal appeal for global markets.

Yodh emphasized that while Lady Bee is a commercial film designed primarily for Thai audiences, it targets international markets strategically. Writer Lab is pursuing investment from outside the film industry, advising investors to diversify capital across three to four films rather than investing entirely in one project, and is bringing in international co-investors. Thai films currently benefit from government tax incentive programs, and Thai content is gaining recognition among foreign studios for both creative talent and professional budget management.

The primary target markets are across Asia—particularly China, Indonesia, and Vietnam—which show strong cinema growth and box office performance. Western markets, including the United States and Europe, are being approached through international film festivals and the marketplace, given current international demand for feminist-themed cinema.

Suchai Pornchaisukdium, president of the Thai Lawn Tennis Association under Royal Patronage, announced that Thailand will host Switzerland in a World Group playoff for the 2026 Billie Jean King Cup on November 21-22 at the National Tennis Development Center in Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi.

"The winning team must secure three of five matches to advance to the World Group, while the losing team will remain in Group 1. Surat Thani Fisheries Deploys Air Boats Against Illegal Cockle Harvesting

12h ago Khaosod

The Surat Thani Provincial Fisheries Office deployed air boats on July 9, 2026 to patrol Ban Poht Bay in Don Sak District and prevent illegal fishing and unauthorized cockle harvesting. Deputy Director Nathapol Sinpulpon led provincial fisheries officers in patrolling the area during the natural cockle spawning season to detect and stop violations involving prohibited fishing equipment. The abundance of wild cockles during this period attracts substantial illegal harvesting activity.

Nathapol noted that the current season brings an influx of cockles, drawing numerous local fishermen who collect and sell cockles to traders for aquaculture. Local fishermen typically earn 2,000-3,000 baht daily from cockle sales, encouraging both residents and outsiders to harvest from natural cockle beds as an income source.

In response, the Surat Thani Fisheries Office deployed air boat patrol units to monitor Ban Poht Bay. The office has coordinated with the Don Sak District Officer, district fisheries officials, community leaders, and related agencies to conduct ongoing surveillance and prevent further illegal fishing and unauthorized cockle dredging in the natural cockle grounds.

Thailand's women's volleyball team was unable to overcome host Japan in the Women's Nations League 2026 Week 3 competition in Osaka, Japan (July 8-12, 2026). Thailand competes alongside the United States, Japan as hosts, Brazil, and Turkey.

On July 9, 2026, in their second match at Asus Arena Osaka, world-ranked 22nd Thailand faced 5th-ranked hosts Japan. Thailand has played 9 matches with 2 wins and 7 losses for 9 points, while Japan has competed in 9 matches with 6 wins and 3 losses for 16 points, holding 7th place in the standings.

Coach Kitti Ratchagrienglai, head coach of Thailand's women's volleyball team, made one personnel change from the first match, bringing back setter Porpan Koetprajai who had recently recovered from illness. The team featured Tudtao Nookjaeng, Satipha Jantvisuth, Pimpichaya Kokkram, Ajcharaporn Khongyot, and Kaewkalya Kumultala, with Piyanus Phaenoi as libero.

Thailand attempted to play fast offensive volleyball with strong net plays, but Japan's solid preparation and tight defense proved superior. Strong offensive plays from Japan's veteran spiker Yukiko Wada eventually secured the victory. Despite Coach Kitti's attempts to adjust tactics, Thailand lost 1-3 sets with scores of 15-25, 21-25, 25-22, and 22-25. Japan earned their 7th win, bringing their total to 19 points, while Thailand remains at 9 points.

Thailand's next match is against Brazil on July 11, 2026 at 1:30 PM Thailand time.
