Couple Arrested for Renting Designer Bags, Pawning Them
Police have arrested a young couple in Bangkok for renting designer bags and then pawning them, leaving numerous bag‑rental shop owners out of pocket. The operation uncovered a multi‑district scam that caused losses of more than five million baht. The suspects face embezzlement charges as investigators expand their inquiry.
Officers arrested 21‑year‑old Kanokwan and 20‑year‑old Chinthanapat at a condominium on Narathivat Road in Bangkok’s Bang Rak district, seizing one Goryard Bowling bag and two Goryard PM bags worth about 100,000 baht. The pair admitted they rented luxury bags from various stores, then pawned them to split the proceeds. Investigations revealed the scheme victimized shops in Bang Sue, Huai Khwang, Khlong Sam Wa and Khlong Luang, with total damages exceeding 5.15 million baht. Police charged them with embezzlement and are continuing to investigate for further leads.
