Court Denies Bail in 900 Million Baht Charity Fraud Case
A former charity foundation chairwoman and her husband have been detained over an alleged 900 million baht fraud involving more than 900,000 donors. The court denied bail for the husband, citing the massive scale of damages and fears of witness tampering, while the wife did not seek release. Both were sent to separate Bangkok prisons as the investigation continues.
On November 7, 2026, at the Criminal Court on Ratchadaphisek Road, investigation officers from the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) detained Ms. Panadda, alias Buam, Wongphudi, 51, former chairwoman of the Doing Good Foundation, and Mr. Athip, alias Got, Anantawan, 53, her husband. They face joint charges of public fraud, money laundering, and violations of the Computer Crime Act in connection with the alleged embezzlement of donations to the Doing Good Foundation, which had over 900,000 donor accounts and losses exceeding 900 million baht.
Prosecutors requested 12-day detention from November 7–18, opposing bail on grounds of the severe penalties, enormous damages, and risk that the suspects would interfere with witnesses or flee. The court approved the detention order.
Reportedly, Buam declined to file a bail petition, while Got's relatives submitted a request with collateral. After weighing the gravity of the charges and case circumstances, the court denied bail for Got, noting that his release could obstruct the investigation given the vast number of victims and the likelihood of witness tampering. Both suspects were then transferred to the Central Women's Correctional Institution and Bangkok Special Prison respectively.
