Court Rejects Bid to Challenge Deputy PM's Appointment
Thailand's Constitutional Court rejected a petition challenging Deputy PM Peeraphan's appointment of an unqualified official to an inspection task force, citing improper filing procedures.
The Constitutional Court unanimously rejected the petition filed by Yoswatchai Chooklom, also known as Jing Dokjik, on September 10, 2024. Jing had sought a court ruling that former Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Peeraphan Salerutwiphak had acted unlawfully and unethically in appointing him to the Region 13 Inspection Task Force despite lacking required qualifications. The court determined that allegations of serious ethical violations under the Constitution's Article 160(4) and (5) must follow a specific procedure established by the Constitutional Court Rules of 2018, Article 47(2). Since Jing did not follow the proper channels to bring such a complaint, the court declined to accept the petition and suggested he pursue remedies through other courts if his constitutional rights have been violated.
