Dead Officer's Friend Reveals 11 Million Baht Debt Sparked Fatal Shooting

A close friend of Pol. Col. Thongchai Yenpresoet, Nonthaburi's Provincial Administrative Organization chairman who was fatally shot, has opened up about the 11 million baht debt dispute that allegedly triggered the attack by former Nonthaburi MP Chalerm Rewyrang at the organization's office.
On August 11, 2026, friends gathered at the Police Hospital's Institute of Forensic Medicine to pay respects. Among them was Chaiyawat Yamnark, a provincial administrative councilor from Bang Bua Thong, who revealed details about the disputed funds. He suggested the debt likely originated from campaign expenses during a former legislative election when multiple candidates, including Norng Chantandit, were running. The 11 million baht apparently came from friends pooling resources to help with campaign costs, rather than a direct loan.
When asked if the money had previously been demanded, Chaiyawat stated he had never witnessed such requests until about a month before the incident, when Chalerm approached him to mediate. Chaiyawat declined, viewing it as a private matter between the two men and lacking details about the dispute. He recommended both parties talk things through calmly as acquaintances. Chaiyawat insisted he never saw serious conflict between them or any indication that violence would occur, and noted the money issue had never been aggressively pursued before.
