Democrat Party Accuses Bangkok of Phantom Flood Command Centre
The Democrat Party's deputy spokesperson accused Bangkok of announcing a phantom flood command centre in Nong Chok's Flora Village after finding no such facility and idle water pumps during a field visit on 4 October. She said many local villages have received no official flood assistance, leaving residents to rely on small, ineffective pumps they purchased themselves. Siripa Intavichien urged the Bangkok governor to investigate his deputy's performance and ensure transparent communication and real coordination.
The Democrat Party's deputy spokesperson Siripa Intavichien said on 5 October 2026 that after Bangkok's deputy governor Thawida Kamonwet announced on 2 October that the city had set up four strategic flood command centres — including one at Flora Village in Nong Chok — she visited the area on 4 October with her party's Blue House assistance team and found no command centre present. Villagers told her that only officials were handing out food and that water pumps brought by the district were idle. She questioned whether the announced centre was a 'phantom' installation, hidden somewhere, or simply not operating. Siripa added that many villages in Nong Chok, including Flora View phases 17 and above, have received no assistance from either the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration or the government, forcing residents to help each other with small, ineffective pumps they bought themselves. She urged the Bangkok governor to investigate the performance of his deputy and staff, stressing the need for clear coordination and transparent communication rather than mere press releases that do not match the reality on the ground.
