Deputy Interior Minister Denies Senate Election-Fixing Allegations
Deputy Interior Minister Vorasit Liangprasit denied allegations that his father and 76 others rigged senate elections, saying they have evidence to prove their innocence during legal proceedings.
At 9:40 a.m. on September 15, 2026, Deputy Interior Minister Vorasit Liangprasit gave an interview at Government House regarding the Election Commission's decision to press charges against 77 people accused of involvement in a senate election-rigging scheme. His father, Somkiat Liangprasit, is among those named. Vorasit said they spoke on September 14 and that while he respects the Election Commission's view, he is confident and ready to prove the facts during proceedings.
When asked if he had discussed the matter with his father and how he would fight the charges, Vorasit stated that he has facts to clarify and is confident they did nothing wrong. He said his father is aware of the situation and not stressed, as both are confident and ready to present evidence.
Vorasit added that he is not considering a countersuit, as there are established rules and procedures that must be followed. He said the family has always operated within proper guidelines and that the accused must prove their innocence in the legal process.
Regarding allegations attempting to link him to the case, Vorasit countered by asking what role he played, noting that the only connection is a family relationship. He stressed that facts must be examined carefully.
When asked about claims that senate-rigging plans were discussed at a Pheu Thai party management committee meeting, Vorasit questioned whether the iLaw organization was actually present at that meeting. When told they cited a witness named Ekrachai Changlao, Vorasit noted that Ekrachai has allegedly changed his testimony, but said regardless, no senate-rigging discussion ever took place at party management committee meetings he attended.
