Deputy PM Orders Meeting on University Dispute Resolution

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Yotchai Wongsawat addressed a serious dispute between Rajamangala University of Technology Isan's Udon Thani campus and Pathumwan Institute of Technology at Parliament on September 8, 2026. Over the past 2-3 months, he has held discussions with both university presidents, proposing staggered class schedules and the establishment of a dispute resolution committee to physically relocate one institution and prevent confrontations. The Treasury Department is reviewing alternative locations, though the process has been slow.
Yotchai stated that a joint meeting will be held on September 9 at 11:00 AM involving himself, ministry officials, both universities, and the Bangkok Police Commissioner to establish a legal framework and strict criteria for resolution. He emphasized the urgency, noting that the conflict has resulted in deaths over many years and poses safety risks not only to students but to the public in the area, with many bystanders injured. He committed to close monitoring and pledged to do his best to resolve the issue, stating that a timeline and further details will be announced after the meeting.
