Thailand Expects U.S. Tax Deal Within One Week
Thailand's trade negotiations with the U.S. are nearing completion, with Deputy Commerce Minister Supachai Suthummaphun expecting a deal within one week after resolving all major tariff issues.
Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Supachai Suthummaphun reported on September 8 that negotiations with the United States on tariffs are proceeding favorably. She said all major issues have been resolved and only minor details regarding wording and language remain, with completion expected very soon. She thanked all government and private sector agencies for working together as Team Thailand to achieve a good negotiating outcome, following direct policy guidance from Prime Minister Anuthon Charnvirakul and Interior Minister.
When asked when talks with U.S. trade representatives would conclude, Suthummaphun said major points are settled and only details remain, with completion expected within one week. Details would then be submitted to U.S. trade representatives for review by the U.S. president. She expressed confidence there would be no problems and that the matter should be resolved normally this month.
Regarding export figures, Suthummaphun said Thai exports should proceed normally if an agreement is reached, with tariff targets matching previous agreements negotiated by the former government. Once negotiations are finalized, Prime Minister Anuthon will call President Donald Trump to conclude the talks.
