Digital Minister Targeted by Call Center Scammers, Issues Public Warning
Thailand's Digital Economy Minister revealed he was targeted by a call center scam at his office, warning the public about such schemes while highlighting that fraud cases have dropped over 50% under the current administration's eight-month
On August 15, Digital Economy Minister Chaiyachok Chidchob gave an interview at Bangkok Railway Station regarding efforts to combat call center and online scams. He acknowledged that he himself had been targeted by a call center scam at his office desk phone at the Digital Economy Ministry. After he recognized the scam and the caller realized he was aware, they hung up.
Chaidchob warned the public to stay alert, as scammers use the same deceptive tactics based on fear and greed. Since Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Interior Minister took office eight months ago, an integrated approach across all government agencies has yielded results. "Overall fraud cases have dropped by more than 50%. No new administration has ever achieved this much," Chaidchob said, thanking all government agencies, banks, and telecommunications operators for their cooperation.
