At 9:25 a.m. on August 15, 2025, at Makkasan Police Station, investigators brought seven youths accused of assaulting a Japanese tourist in a derelict area near Makkasan Airport Rail Link station to file detention requests with the Juvenile and Family Court on charges of nighttime robbery. After questioning was completed the previous day, police released the youths to return home and summoned them to the police station in the morning to be taken together for detention proceedings. Parents and guardians brought the youths to the station before heading to the juvenile court to prepare bail applications.

Police Captain Urampol Khundechsamrit, commander of Makkasan Police Station, revealed that during questioning with a multidisciplinary team, the youths confessed to the incident, which aligned with facts showing that robbery and assault did occur. Police have charged them with nighttime robbery. Regarding reports that the victim allegedly engaged in indecent conduct with the seven youths before the assault, details cannot be disclosed as this is a juvenile case handled with multidisciplinary team involvement.

Khundechsamrit stated that whether the location is a disorderly area during nighttime hours requires inquiry from the State Railway of Thailand, as they own the area. Investigators do not oppose bail, and families may file bail applications. Whether bail is granted depends on the court's discretion.

The Health Promotion Foundation (HPF) has clarified that it procures advertising space directly from site owners in compliance with government accounting standards, ensuring budget efficiency, transparency, and auditability. Dr. Prakasit Kayasitthi, Deputy Manager of the HPF, posted on Facebook to address claims that the foundation pays media companies indirectly through NGOs and organizations rather than directly to billboard owners. He stated that these allegations are inaccurate and that the HPF contracts directly with Bangkok Transit System and Bangkok Mass Transit System (BEM) through proper procedures, securing campaign space at the Bangkok Pier and BTS stations, including 18 complementary signs at Victory Monument for 12 months to promote better public health behavior.

Dr. Prakasit emphasized that all HPF campaign media procurement complies 100 percent with the 2017 Public Procurement Act overseen by the Comptroller General's Department. The process includes committees for scope of work, vendor qualification assessment, evaluation of bids based on price and technical merit, and contract inspection. The HPF spends less than 5 percent of its annual budget on advertising, but reaches a wide audience thanks to partner organizations offering discounted rates below commercial rates, including the Airports of Thailand, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, MRT, BTS, and other public and private partners committed to improving public health behavior.

According to Nielsen Media Monitor's 2025 assessment, the HPF achieved 1.703 billion baht in advertising value while spending approximately 220 million baht annually on media campaigns across all channels. Campaign effectiveness evaluations for 2024-2025 showed an 84.59 percent success rate in changing public attitudes and behaviors. Dr. Prakasit reaffirmed the foundation's commitment to transparent and efficient budget use for the health and wellbeing of all Thais, and invited constructive criticism to improve operations, while requesting clarification on any inaccurate information that may have been circulated.

A 49-year-old man from Xinzhou, Guangdong province, recently presented to hospital with severe abdominal pain and an inability to urinate for more than 7 hours, requiring emergency surgery. Out of momentary curiosity, he had inserted an 80-centimeter charging cable into his urethra but was unable to remove it, leaving it lodged in his body for over 7 hours. Unable to urinate and experiencing severe abdominal swelling and pain, he sought medical help. After detailed 3D CT scanning of the pelvic region, doctors found a 6-millimeter diameter charging cable tangled and coiled inside the bladder, causing severe obstruction of the urinary tract and significant narrowing of the lower urethra, preventing normal urine flow. Doctors performed an emergency surgical procedure that took several hours to successfully remove the entire cable from his body. After appropriate treatment, the man has since recovered and been discharged from hospital. Medical experts from Xinzhou First People's Hospital warned that the inner walls of the urethra are lined with delicate mucous membrane with many capillaries and have very low tolerance for irritation. Forcing foreign objects with hard edges into the urethra can easily cause tears or ruptures in the urethral wall, introduce bacteria leading to infection, and in severe cases result in kidney infection and life-threatening sepsis, as well as permanent damage to urinary and sexual function.

The International Sepak Takraw Federation, or ISTAF, has issued fines against five Thai national sepak takraw players and three officials totaling 54,000 US dollars following their withdrawal from the Sepak Takraw World Cup team event finals held in Malaysia on May 24.

The ISTAF disciplinary committee found all eight individuals guilty. Three players — Phuttawan Sopa, Wichanya Temkohit, and Chakkrit Thinbangbon — were each fined 6,000 US dollars, while players Sithipong Kamjan and Jatupol Siriart were each fined 5,000 US dollars.

Staff members Naruchit Kalanchun and Sachart Sakchareun were each fined 8,000 US dollars, while team manager Auychai Srisuwannasri was fined 10,000 US dollars.

The suspension period for all eight individuals has now ended. If the fines are not paid within 14 days of notification, they will face an additional competition ban of one to two years. All penalized parties may appeal within 14 days by paying a 500 US dollar fee.

With their suspension periods now complete, the five athletes regain eligibility for future Thai national team selection and may compete in the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, pending the national team's selection process.

On August 15, the Religion, Art and Culture Committee of the House of Representatives, led by deputy chair Chananth Thai-Sert, visited Nakhon Sawan province to study religious affairs and discuss solutions to temple land disputes. The committee met with senior monks and local officials at Wat Khao Thong in Phayuhakiri district to address concerns about how temple land is acquired, donated, and legally registered in accordance with monastic law.

The committee expressed worry that once land is donated to a temple, legal procedures and documentation must be completed promptly to prevent future ownership disputes. They cited the Wat Pa Adulyaram case in Khon Kaen as a cautionary example.

Chananth revealed that the committee will work with the National Office of Buddhism to gather detailed data on temple land problems nationwide, distinguishing between privately-owned temple land and state land used with permission for monastery construction. This information will be used to develop a national strategy for addressing the issue.

The committee also intends to request all provincial Buddhist affairs offices to survey and categorize temple land problems in their areas. Chananth stressed the urgency of the matter, as it involves law, land rights, religious property management, and relationships between temples, communities, and government agencies.

Following the meeting, the committee received two letters requesting assistance with land title documents from monks and residents at Wat Thep Nimit Sawang Tham in Nakhon Sawan.
