Residents from Lam Duan subdistrict in Krasan district, Buriram province have lodged a complaint with the provincial Ombudsman's Office against a village headman, seeking disciplinary action and his removal from office. The residents accuse the headman of repeatedly organizing illegal hi-lo gambling games with villagers, despite previously announcing that the village should be drug-free and having reported other residents to police for illegal gambling.
After initially filing a complaint with Krasan district approximately two months ago without resolution, villagers escalated the matter to the provincial level to ensure proper investigation and disciplinary proceedings. On July 1, 2026, district chief Terdphan Krombthong stated that the district office had not neglected the case and established a fact-finding committee in mid-June 2026. The committee summoned both complainants and the accused village headman, who denied the allegations. The investigation is currently in the stage of interviewing additional witnesses and gathering evidence to determine whether the headman actually committed the offenses. The fact-finding process must be completed within 15 days, after which disciplinary action may be initiated if evidence supports the allegations. The severity of any potential penalties will depend on the gravity of the misconduct.
