The Election Commission has disqualified the Mayor of Sup Thep Municipality and six municipal council members for violating campaign time limits, with a new election to be held within 60 days. On September 3, Nophadol Suya, Director of the Chiang Mai Provincial Election Commission, announced that the central Election Commission has issued red cards against Surachet Takamma, Mayor of Sup Thep Municipality in Muang District, and six members of the Tambon Council from Electoral District 2. The case originated as an objection filed with the central Election Commission, but the Election Commission must now forward investigative documents and findings to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals for final judgment before a new election is conducted within 60 days. The Mayor and council members will continue performing their duties normally but will be temporarily suspended if the court accepts the petition. Both the objector and respondents must present evidence and defend themselves in court, though the court has not yet held a hearing or issued any ruling in the case, and the Election Commission has not yet submitted the documents for judicial consideration.
