Court Orders Detention of Student Who Fired Gun at School
A 14-year-old student in Kamphaengphet was ordered detained after firing a gun at school, with the court finding he poses a risk of repeating similar dangerous acts if released.
The Juvenile and Family Court in Kamphaengphet has ordered the detention of a Grade 9 student who brought a firearm into school and fired multiple shots, citing concerns that he may commit similar acts or other offenses if released.
On September 3, 2569, it was reported that on September 2, a 14-year-old student named B from a school in Muang Kamphaengphet District brought a gun into the school and fired several rounds.
The following day, investigators brought the suspect before the Juvenile and Family Court and his guardians in Kamphaengphet Province for detention review within 24 hours of his arrival at the investigative office.
The court found that police detention of the suspect at the time of the incident and his arrest and treatment as a minor were lawful. He faces charges of attempted murder, violation of the Firearms Act, and misdemeanor offenses.
Although the suspect is a minor and would ordinarily be exempt from criminal punishment under Section 74 of the Criminal Code, the court determined that releasing him to his parents or guardians could result in repeated or similar dangerous acts that pose serious risk to others. Therefore, in the best interest of the child and the suspect, the court ordered his detention during the investigation period pursuant to Section 73 of the Juvenile and Family Court Act and the Juvenile and Family Case Procedure Act, B.E. 2553.
