Woman Reports Neighbour for Stealing Prized Fighting Rooster

At 9:00 a.m. on September 3, 2025, Chanpen, 68, filed a complaint with Deputy Investigation Superintendent Wasant Nakongsi of Muang Udon Thani Police Station, alleging that her 38-year-old neighbour Boy had stolen her two-year-old male fighting rooster named Jao Pradu. After receiving the report, police contacted the emergency line 191 for investigation. When officers arrived at Boy's house, they found the bird's carcass with feathers already removed and prepared for butchering. Boy was taken into custody and charged with theft of another's property. The rooster and suspect were brought to Muang Udon Thani Police Station for legal proceedings.

Chanpen stated that the rooster had been purchased by her husband for 5,000 baht and had been raised for a long time as a breeding bird. Boy's house is located directly across from hers. She noted that Boy had a history of petty theft, stealing items including bamboo shoots from behind her house, kitchen groceries, and various utilities belonging to villagers such as water meters and electrical wires. No one had previously been able to catch him due to lack of evidence.

Chanpen explained that this morning, while making merit offerings at the temple, she noticed the male rooster was missing from its pen. She saw smoke coming from Boy's kitchen area and smelled burning feathers. When she asked Boy what he was doing, he claimed he was just making a fire. After finishing merit-making, she checked on the rooster and a neighbour reported seeing Boy carrying a bucket with a rooster inside. She alerted the village headman and followed Boy on her motorcycle, but did not dare approach him after seeing him carrying a knife. When the headman arrived, Boy threatened him. Chanpen then called police, who arrested Boy and recovered the bird as evidence.
