Finance Worker Credits Monk With Career Success
A Bangkok finance worker credits a revered monk at Klang Bang Phra Temple in Nakhon Pathom for turning around her struggling career, fulfilling a vow by donating coffins and burial shrouds to support the temple's disaster relief programs.
On September 12, 2026, at Klang Bang Phra Temple (Luang Pho Somwang) in Nakhon Pathom Province, Ms. Suwanna, a 35-year-old finance employee at a Bangkok company, made merit offerings with her family early in the morning. She brought five coffins and twenty white burial shrouds to present as an offering to Luang Pho Somwang, a sacred Buddha image standing over 30 meters tall that is revered by Thais and foreigners alike.
Suwanna explained that earlier in the year, she had come to pay respects and pray for help because her income was poor and she had lost many clients, fearing dismissal for missing targets. After a friend recommended visiting Luang Pho Somwang, she came with her family and made a vow to return with offerings if her situation improved. Within weeks, business turned around dramatically—clients returned in abundance, she exceeded her sales targets, received a bonus, and was promoted to team leader. She attributes this success to the monk's blessing.
After consulting with relatives about fulfilling her vow, Suwanna learned that Klang Bang Phra Temple houses an emergency rescue unit and disaster relief foundation with 11 charitable programs serving the poor. She decided to purchase coffins and burial shrouds as offerings, also donating money to the rescue unit so the temple could provide proper burials for the unclaimed dead and destitute. After presenting the offerings, her relatives asked her to shake the fortune-telling bamboo cylinder for lucky lottery numbers. She drew three sticks with the numbers 12, 24, and 9. Before leaving, she bowed again and prayed for greater fortune, promising to return with a larger merit-making ceremony.
