At around 09:00 on 4 October, a fire erupted in a row of single‑storey workers’ quarters adjoining a garment factory near Mae Sot Hospital in the Wat Luang community. The blaze quickly consumed the old wooden structures, sending thick black smoke visible across the Thai‑Myanmar border. Strong winds drove the flames into the factory, where large quantities of fabric were stored, endangering more than 70 Myanmar workers inside. Over ten fire engines from Mae Sot municipality and surrounding areas responded, bringing the fire under control after more than an hour. One worker sustained a burn to the upper arm; no fatalities were reported. The garment factory was destroyed and more than ten workers’ rooms were severely damaged. Mae Sot police, led by Superintendent Pol Col Rang Daodueng, are investigating possible causes such as an unextinguished cooking fire or an electrical short circuit.
