Siam Park Bangkok Flooded, Owner Seeks 10 Billion Baht Sale
Siam Park Bangkok, a 45‑year‑old amusement park famous for its rainbow slides and artificial sea, has been submerged by floodwaters for five days, leaving the site eerily quiet. The park’s owner, Dr. Chaiwat Lueang‑amornlert, says the disaster has forced him to consider selling the entire complex for 10 billion baht, offering the rides for free. The attraction began in 1975 as a vision to bring the sea to the heart of the city and grew into a major educational and entertainment destination.
On 19 November 1980, Siam Park Bangkok opened its gates under the slogan 'Siam Park – World of Happiness, Unforgettable Fun'. The park featured a massive wave pool, a seven‑colour rainbow slide towering like a seven‑storey building, and over thirty rides including a double‑deck carousel, giant Ferris wheel, dragon‑headed boats, roller coaster, and log flume. Throughout the 1990s it served as an educational and social hub, hosting school trips, scouting camps, and cultural shows ranging from British ice skating to American magic and Russian circus. The park also boasted the 109‑metre‑high Siam‑Am Tower, once the tallest observation tower in Southeast Asia.
