Flood-Damaged Velodrome Under Urgent Repair for National Cycling Championships
Severe flooding damaged the Hua Mak velodrome, prompting a three-week repair closure from November 2 and rescheduling the national track championships to November 27–29.
Thai Cycling Association President Gen. Decha Makarasri revealed that the association had planned to hold the fifth and final round of the Thailand Track Cycling Championships from October 9-11. However, severe flooding across many parts of Thailand, particularly at the Hua Mak velodrome within the Hua Mak Sports Complex, submerged the area around the track with water reaching chest level, making it impossible to proceed with the competition as scheduled.
Gen. Decha stated the flooding caused significant damage to the velodrome, with the track surface peeling off after being submerged for over a week. The association is now rushing to repair and restore the velodrome to normal condition. The facility will be closed from November 2 onwards for track repairs and repainting to prepare for competition as soon as possible.
Gen. Decha estimated repairs, repainting, and equipment restoration will take approximately three weeks. The fifth round of the Thailand Track Championships is now tentatively scheduled for November 27-29, provided repairs proceed as planned. Athletes would be allowed to train November 23-26 before the competition. The association will announce the confirmed schedule on its website www.thaicycling.or.th and the Thailand Cycling Association Facebook page.
