The body of a 50‑year‑old man with a history of mental illness was found floating in floodwaters near his home in Ang Thong’s Phoengphaeng subdistrict. Villagers discovered him while returning by boat and alerted police, who are investigating the death as possibly accidental. Floodwaters in the area are about two metres deep, affecting hundreds of households.
At 07:50 on October 9, 2026, Police Lieutenant Somanek Sonsuay of the Pahomok Police Station received a report of a body found floating in the water beside a house in Phoengphaeng subdistrict, Pahomok district, Ang Thong province, an area affected by flooding. Officers coordinated with relevant agencies to inspect the scene. The body of a man was found face‑down in the water, swollen and naked. Preliminary checks identified him as Nati Chai (surname withheld), aged 50. Villagers who discovered the body said they were returning by boat when they noticed an object in the water; upon closer look they realized it resembled a human figure and alerted authorities. Phoengphaeng subdistrict headman Amnod Chaisitti said the deceased had a history of mental illness and lived alone; his parents had died and relatives live nearby. The area is currently experiencing floodwaters about two metres deep. Initial speculation is that he may have fallen into the water and been unable to help himself, though the exact cause of death remains unconfirmed. Villagers reported seeing him two days earlier collecting donations in the area, suggesting he may have been dead for at least that long. After the incident, officials notified his relatives and sent the body for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The reporter added that in Phoengphaeng subdistrict, Pahomok district, 393 households have been affected by the flood; single‑story homes have evacuated to roadside tents, while two‑story homes remain occupied but residents must travel by boat to enter and leave the village. Meanwhile, the Chao Phraya River level is receding steadily.
