Fortune Teller Scams Woman, Demands Sex Ritual at Bangkok Mall

On October 21, the victim was walking through the third-floor fortune-telling zone of a Bang Kapi shopping mall in Bangkok. A male fortune teller approached her, advertising a 100-baht reading, but once she sat down he demanded 499 baht for a 'real' reading. He told her she was suffering severe karma and cited family issues, some of which were inaccurate. Exploiting her stress, he proposed a ritual to place her name and birth details under a Buddha image for 25,000 baht, insisting she was wealthy and should not claim poverty. When she refused, he lowered the price repeatedly to 2,900 baht. Fearing his threats, she transferred a total of 3,399 baht for the reading and the ritual.

The scheme continued. The fortune teller claimed the first ritual only resolved 70% of her problems and introduced a 'Visankanya' ceremony, described as a 'fate ordination' that would guarantee 100% success. He asked for her home and workplace details, then steered the conversation toward sex, explaining the ritual required the use of genitals. He offered to perform the ritual for free in a private room or hotel, but only if she participated one-on-one. He threatened that if she did not comply before November 22, she would face severe karma affecting her job, love life, and her mother's health, while compliance would bring improvement within nine days and nine nights. After nearly an hour of pressure, the woman felt unsafe and fled.

She later filed a police report at Ladprao Police Station and called the fortune teller back to record the conversation as evidence. Another woman contacted her via TikTok, reporting a similar experience with the same fortune teller. The founder of the Sai Mai Tong Rod Facebook page, Ekaphap Lueangprasert, warned the public about fraudsters who exploit emotional vulnerability and said he would coordinate with Ladprao investigators to pursue the fraud case and examine the audio recordings for potential sexual harassment charges.
