A dramatic incident unfolded when an adopted son fired a homemade pistol at his foster father, but the gun misfired. The foster father then seized the weapon and struck his son's head, causing a severe wound. Officials rushed the injured man to hospital on November 5, 2026.

On November 5, 2026, Phayao's Mueang District Chief Somchai Wongjariyakesem ordered the district security team, along with Ban Tam Subdistrict Headman Adul Oywan, Village 13 Headman, the subdistrict doctor, deputy headmen, and Mueang Phayao Police officers to investigate a brawl involving firearms in Ban Tam Subdistrict, Mueang Phayao District, Phayao Province.

Preliminary investigation identified the gunman as Thawisak (surname withheld), 39, from Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. He had traveled to work as a rubber tapper in Ban Tam and Mae Phum subdistricts, with his registered address in Village 13, Mae Phum Subdistrict, Mueang Phayao District.

Before the incident, Thawisak had a verbal argument with Sawat (surname withheld), his foster father, who originates from Na Mai Phai Subdistrict, Thung Song District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. Thawisak then fired a short-barrel Thai-made homemade pistol at Sawat, but the bullet malfunctioned or was a dud, causing no gunshot injuries.

Both parties then wrestled for the gun until Sawat managed to seize it. He then struck Thawisak's head forcefully with the gun barrel, causing a large laceration with heavy bleeding.

After the incident, Thawisak fled to his quarters. The village headman followed and found Thawisak sitting near the quarters' entrance with a head wound. The village headman coordinated with rescue volunteers for first aid before sending him to Phayao Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, Mueang Phayao Police investigators examined the scene and questioned Sawat, who stated that both men had been eating together before a verbal dispute erupted, leading Thawisak to shoot at him. The gun jammed, leading to the struggle and assault.

However, the cause of the dispute, motives, and true details of the incident remain under investigation by Mueang Phayao Police investigators gathering evidence and witnesses to proceed with legal action.
