Father Shoots Drug-Addicted Son Dead in Narathiwat
A Narathiwat village security volunteer shot and killed his drug-addicted son after the 36-year-old attacked him during a money demand.
At 2:50 PM on November 2, 2026, Lieutenant Kanpitcha Mingkaew, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) of Mueang Narathiwat Police Station, received a report of a father shooting his son to death in a fruit orchard in Lamphu subdistrict, Mueang district, Narathiwat province. She coordinated with forensic teams and rushed to the scene with Police Lieutenant Colonel Panya Bate, Superintendent of Mueang Narathiwat Police, patrol officers, investigators, and administrative officials.
At the scene, they found the body of a 36-year-old male with a shotgun wound to the right hip. One spent shotgun shell was recovered as evidence. The shooter was the victim's 66-year-old father, who also serves as a village security volunteer (Chor Ror Bor). He had surrendered at the house opposite the scene, appearing distraught, with a bruise on his left forearm from being struck. A homemade shotgun and ammunition were found on a stone table in front of the house.
During questioning, the father stated his son had a history of three drug-related imprisonments and multiple rehabilitation attempts, but relapsed each time. When experiencing withdrawal, the son regularly demanded money from his parents and would assault them if refused. Before the incident, the son came asking for money as usual, an argument ensued, and the son struck the father with a stick. Unable to endure further, the father retrieved the homemade gun from the house. The son fled into the orchard and the father fired one shot, intending only to wound him as a lesson, but the bullet proved fatal.
The body was sent to Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra Hospital. The father was detained for further interrogation and will face legal charges.
