A fuel truck suffered brake failure on a steep section of Highway 108 in Mae Hong Son province, hitting two pickup trucks before plunging over 100 meters into a ravine and spilling fuel across farmland. The 33-year-old driver miraculously survived, climbing back to the road despite serious injuries, and was rushed to Mae Sariang Hospital. Police are managing traffic and coordinating cleanup of the fuel spill.
On November 5, 2026, media reported that at 6:05 PM on November 4, rescue workers from the Mae Ho Subdistrict Administrative Organization were alerted to a fuel truck plunging into a ravine on Highway 108 between Ban Pa Chi in Mae Ho subdistrict and the Pa Pae intersection in Mae Sariang district, Mae Hong Son province. They rushed to the scene along with officers from the Mae Ho Police Checkpoint.
At the scene, they found the 33-year-old fuel truck driver who had miraculously survived. Despite being covered in blood, disoriented, and suffering severe neck pain, the injured driver had managed to crawl from the wreckage and climb back up to the road on his own. He remained conscious and responsive. Rescue workers urgently transported him to Mae Sariang Hospital.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing the fuel truck lose control and become unmanageable starting from the Ban Pa Chi area. The driver attempted to navigate the steep downhill while continuously honking to warn other vehicles for over a kilometer. However, due to the steep gradient, the truck swerved and collided with two local pickup trucks before losing control completely and plunging more than 100 meters off the highway at the 176-177 kilometer markers. It crashed violently into farmland, leaving the vehicle severely mangled and fuel spilling across the entire area.
The driver stated he was transporting fuel alone from Chonburi province to deliver to customers in Mae Sariang district. While descending from Mae Ho towards Ban Pa Chi, the brakes failed completely and he lost all control. He fought to control the truck and honked continuously to warn others. He was aware of hitting two vehicles before the truck flipped and plunged down the ravine.
Officers from the Mae Ho Checkpoint remain on scene managing traffic to prevent further accidents and coordinating with relevant agencies to contain the fuel spill for public safety.
