GMMTV has issued an urgent statement addressing the costume controversy in the series "Scarlet Heart Thailand," asserting that the designs draw inspiration from multiple cultures and denying any intention to claim them as exclusively Thai.

The controversy erupted online after some Myanmar viewers pointed out similarities between the costumes and jewelry in the teaser for the major series "Scarlet Heart Thailand: Miracle Across Time" and traditional Burmese royal attire, demanding clarification from the production company.

Most recently, GMMTV Company Limited did not remain silent and released an official statement on October 23, 2026, to clarify the origins of the artistic elements and costumes in question.

The statement reads: GMMTV clarifies regarding costumes and artistic elements in the series "Scarlet Heart Thailand: Miracle Across Time." GMMTV Company Limited thanks all viewers who have expressed opinions and shared reference information about the costumes and cultural elements appearing in the series. The company acknowledges the concerns and places importance on presenting various cultures appropriately and with respect.

The company clarifies that "Alavi" is a fictional city created for the series storyline. The production team studied information on costumes, art, and culture to incorporate into the design of scenes, costumes, and artistic elements to align with the story and characters. The design work draws inspiration from the diversity and beauty of artistic and cultural heritage of Lanna, Tai ethnic groups, Chinese, and Myanmar cultures, interpreting and adapting them to create the identity of the city of Alavi.

Myanmar art and culture is one of the inspiration sources that the production team admires for its beauty and uniqueness, just like other cultures that contributed to the creation of this work. The company respects the value and origins of each culture and did not intend to present all elements appearing in the series as Thai culture. The creation of this fictional city arose from admiration for cultural diversity and the intention to convey these elements with care and refinement.

The company apologizes for the concerns arising from the presentation of cultural elements in this series and thanks all viewers who shared opinions and reference information. The company and production team respect the attachment people have to their cultural heritage and are committed to creating works that consider the value of every culture that serves as inspiration.
