Health Ministry Tightens Control on Cannabis Plantations Nationwide
Thailand's Health Ministry is ramping up enforcement of cannabis cultivation rules through stricter inspections, license revocation powers, and improved tracking systems to ensure growers comply with permit conditions nationwide.
The Ministry of Public Health is implementing strict oversight measures for cannabis cultivation across Thailand, with two primary goals: first, to monitor all cannabis plantations nationwide and ensure licensees strictly adhere to permit conditions within legal frameworks; second, to coordinate with security agencies and instruct provincial health offices to collaborate with administrative and police authorities to conduct inspections and increase enforcement in their areas.
Dr. Peercha Kugaskitkit, Director of the Medical Cannabis Division, outlined three key enforcement measures: (1) stringent inspections of licensed cannabis plantations to ensure legal compliance; (2) authority for provincial health offices to immediately suspend or revoke licenses upon detecting violations of permit conditions; and (3) enhanced database management using geographic information systems (MC-GIS) to provide all relevant agencies—including provincial health offices, administration departments, and police—with uniform data for accurate inspections and law enforcement.
These measures aim to integrate cooperation across all sectors to efficiently implement cannabis control in accordance with legal provisions on a sustainable basis.
