Heavy Rain Returns to Thailand, Flash Flood Risk Warned
The Meteorological Department warns that heavy rain will return to three regions of Thailand from 16‑22 October 2069, with Bangkok expected to be hit hard. The rain raises the risk of flash floods and overflowing streams, especially in the South, lower central and eastern areas. Residents and mariners are urged to take precautions against flooding and rough seas.
The Thai Meteorological Department’s seven‑day forecast (16‑22 October 2069) predicts a return of heavy rain to three regions, with Bangkok likely to be heavily affected, raising the threat of flash floods and overflowing streams. From 17‑19 October, upper Thailand will see decreasing rain but isolated thunderstorms, while the South will experience heavy to very heavy rain in some areas under a weakening high‑pressure system, easterly winds and a monsoon trough over the south. Between 20‑22 October, lower northeastern, central (including Bangkok and its vicinity), and eastern regions will see increased rainfall and heavy to very heavy downpours in places, while the South continues to have persistent heavy to very heavy rain. Sea waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are expected to be about 1 metre, rising above 2 metres in thunderstorm zones. Authorities advise residents in lower central, eastern and southern areas to watch for flash floods and standing water, especially on hillsides near watercourses and low‑lying zones, and urge mariners to exercise caution and avoid sailing during thunderstorms.
