Pipe Bomb Blast Injures Five at Village Protection Base

A pipe bomb attack on the Ban Nang Sta Village Protection Unit in Yala province left five officers injured on the evening of October 15, 2026. One of two thrown explosives detonated, damaging buildings and four motorcycles, while the second failed to explode; officials said it was the third assault on the base and pledged to strengthen security despite sustained morale.

Officers from the Ban Nang Sta Village Protection Unit described the blast: Sergeant Major Iboreheng Tinguseng suffered ear bleeding, Sergeant Ek Har N Maseang was wounded in the right leg, and three others—Sergeant Ek Maron ing Tayina, Sergeant Ek Abdulbache Jeena, and Sergeant Ek Aamree Tao Deng—experienced ear ringing and headaches. Aamree Tao Deng recounted that while seven personnel were inside the base preparing to eat, they heard an object strike the roof before tiles shattered and the bomb exploded; they took cover, reported to superiors, and later found a second explosive device lying about ten metres away in another house that did not detonate. He noted the base had been attacked twice before during his more than ten years of service, calling this incident the closest danger they have faced, and urged improved protective gear and greater vigilance. Deputy unit commander Sa‑udi Jeenasni said he heard the explosion while heading to a meeting, immediately radioed the alert and ordered front and rear guard posts to respond; initial reports indicated one injury and three to four cases of ear ringing, later confirmed as five wounded. Planned security upgrades include raising rear sandbags, installing additional lighting, setting up CCTV cameras, and increasing patrol frequency, while leaders stressed that troop morale remains strong and their resolve to safeguard lives and property is unchanged.

Thai Household Debt Falls Amid Flood‑Hit Jobs Crisis

Thai household‑debt‑to‑GDP fell to a 25‑quarter low of 85.2% in Q2 2026, but the decline reflects tight credit conditions rather than genuine improvement. Flood‑related disruptions have affected 1.69 million workers, mainly in Bangkok and Samut Prakan, worsening income and repayment ability. SCB EIC warns that without targeted aid, liquidity strains could evolve into bad loans despite the projected debt ratio falling to 83.5‑84.5% by year‑end.
