Thailand Warns of Heavy Rain, Flash Floods, High Seas
The Thai Meteorological Department issued a heavy‑rain warning covering much of Thailand, forecasting strong winds, flash floods and sea waves over two metres. The alert affects the south on 12 October and the north, northeast, central, east and south again on 13 October. Residents and mariners are advised to take precautions against thunderstorms, gusty winds and possible flooding.
The Thai Meteorological Department’s 12th bulletin, issued at 17:00 on 12 October 2069, warns of heavy to very heavy rain across Thailand from 12 to 13 October, accompanied by strong winds, flash flooding and wild runoff, with sea waves exceeding two metres in thunderstorm areas. Heavy rain is expected on 12 October in the southern region and on 13 October in the lower north, lower northeast, central region including Bangkok and its vicinity, the east and the south. The weather pattern results from a high‑pressure system or cold air mass from China extending over northern Thailand and the South China Sea, combined with easterly and southeasterly winds bringing moisture from the South China Sea, while the southwest monsoon remains over the Andaman Sea and the monsoon trough lies across the south. Residents should watch for thunderstorms, strong gusts, heavy and accumulated rain that could cause flash floods and hill torrents, and seafarers in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea are urged to sail with caution and avoid thunderstorm zones. For today (18:00) to tomorrow (18:00), the forecast shows: North – 20% chance of thunderstorms mainly in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Tak and Kamphaeng Phet, lows 22‑26 °C, highs 33‑35 °C, east winds 10‑20 km/h. Central – 20% chance mainly in Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon and Samut Songkhram, lows 23‑27 °C, highs 33‑36 °C, northeast winds 10‑20 km/h. East – 30% chance mainly in Chon Buri, Rayong, Chantaburi and Trad, lows 23‑27 °C, highs 32‑35 °C, northeast winds 10‑30 km/h; seas generally below one metre but over two metres in thunderstorm areas.
