Immigration Chief Unveils Policy to Facilitate Lawful Travelers, Hinder Criminals
Immigration Bureau chief Lt. Gen. Nopasin Poolsawat unveiled a new policy to raise the bureau to international standards, balancing security and convenience under the “good people facilitated, criminals hindered” principle. The policy outlines four pillars and seven missions, ranging from protecting the monarchy and strengthening proactive intelligence to dismantling transnational crime networks and improving services for legitimate travelers. The announcement was made at the annual policy meeting on October 12, 2026.
The policy rests on four pillars: proactive security, intelligence‑led operations, dismantling criminal networks, and delivering international‑standard services to pre‑empt transnational threats while facilitating legitimate travelers and investors with transparency and professionalism. It also outlines seven key missions: protecting the monarchy; developing proactive immigration screening using intelligence, biometrics, and risk assessment to stop suspects and wanted persons; conducting network‑wide investigations against transnational crimes such as call‑center gangs, cyber‑crime, human trafficking, money laundering, nominee abuses, and the use of Thailand as a base for illegal activity; regulating foreign residents to eliminate visa overstays, document fraud, and other loopholes; leveraging data and intelligence to detect anomalies, assess risks, and set precise targets; raising service standards to global levels while maintaining the “good people facilitated, criminals hindered” balance; and building a professional immigration police force grounded in honesty, transparency, discipline, and accountability. Lt. Gen. Nopasin Poolsawat concluded by urging the bureau to become a frontline security agency capable of preventing threats before they reach the country.
